Well the order I placed the middle of last week was delivered yesterday, 2 pairs of cycle shorts, and 2 tops.

And the shorts I sent back by 2nd class post on Saturday, must have reached them, as I just had an e-mail to say the refund had been processed to my card.

As long as the admin fee isn't ridiculous (More than £3) I'm very happy with JE James, and have no complaints whatsoever - Have I just been uber lucky?!

I agree that maybe their stock reporting is a bit askew at times, and if I needed something in 1 or 2 days, I would either buy locally, or look to Wiggle/CRC/Ribble.

On my recent order I added a couple of T-Shirts that they had reduced to £2.50 or something, thought it was worth a go. Had an e-mail 2 days later to say that they were both out of stock, but to their credit they were removed from the website within 2 days.

But if you can plan ahead, and wait a bit, or look elsewhere if they really don't have it in stock, then I don't see the problem myself.

The Montane jacket I bought from them was £7 cheaper than anyone else, the womens version I bought for my gf was £5 cheaper than anyone else, and the phat bar grips I bought were £5 cheaper than anywhere else too.
Montane featherlite overtrousers were also £5 cheaper than anywhere else.

The shorts I have recently bought were allegedly reduced from:
    £80 - £29 (Bib)
    £50 - £19
    £50 - £14
    £35 - £8

And the tops were reduced from £30 - £5.

I'll defo be shopping with them again, as and when they have something that takes my fancy, is a good price, and when I'm not in a hurry for it.

    Cannondale Synapse Adventure 15 & 16 Di2
    Scott Foil 18
  • Have not used them for mail-order but certainly the feeling that i got when in the shop was they were very busy "being busy" and did not have the time or inclination to help.

The small additional cost of your LBS is money well spent

I will never use JE James again, the mail order section appears to be run by a bunch of incompetent buffoons, they may appear to be cheap, (assuming they actually have the item advertised in stock) but so is their service. Not worth the bother

i ordered my new TCR alliance frane from then & it took 4 phone calls for it t o take up

in the end i rang sheffield & got put thru on the internal line

i have used them in the past by going in & their knowledge & back up is A1

i had a faulty TCR about 4 years ago & when i took it back they stripped it & replaced frame

however it did take 2 X trips to sheffield

problem they have just had is a mixture of staffing problems & courier probs...

I use Wiggle. A bit limited but they're getting better stock and they are hyperspeed quick with or without priority delivery option :D

Well the re-stocking fee is between £2 and £10 depending on item. Under the distance selling regs, charging a re-stoking fee is not permitted (regardless of their excuse that it is because post is free). I dislike this sort of bad (illegal?) practice! Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole for this reason alone (though there are plenty of others).
  • I don't like ordering from JE James, but for some bargains I guess its worth the hassle. On top of the will it /won't it turn up angst you get when you order , I called them once after a cock up with a credit card and they weren't the most helpful.

So I would say they are best avoided if possible if I can get it the same item at close to the price its going at J E James I always buy from another shop.

They do seem to process there refunds quickly. I recently bought a set of reduced Nike bib shorts, they turned up (within a week or so) without any labels, some stitching had pulled apart and bobbly lyrca - they looked 2nd hand to me, but couldn't really be sure.

I sent them back with a note about the problems and they refunded my card very promptly for the full amount, however they didn't refund my return postage like crc or wiggle do with faulty goods.

not good enough, tight at best, crooked at worst! Its like they think they are doing you a favour in sending you faulty goods and wasting your time and money!

Aren't you leaving it a bit fine? I wouldn't wait until the day before to order a birthday present!

If their mail order is as bad as their 'expert fitting service' - sit on that mate, yeah it looks about right (if only I knew then what I know now!) - I'd leave 'em well alone.
  • I've never used their mail order so can't comment.

They are my LBS and the staff there are pretty useless too. Luckily I do all my own repairs and I always use Wiggle or Chain Reaction as they are more likely to have stock. However I know one or two people who have had the 'big don't know' experience with their workshop too.
