anybody thinking of ordering anything from j.e.james be aware that it takes a LIFETIME for it to arrive. ordered some stuff to take away on a trip abroad (which was all in stock) and here i sit 7 days later still waiting for my stuff. the bloody things only have to come from 1 end of yorkshire to the other! anywhere else that offers free postage at worst gets stuff to you in 3 days in my experience
NEVER AGAIN

Yeh I just got an email today saying it's been dispatched. Ordered a week ago, and again the website said that everything was in stock. Previous orders have been very good though.

I ordered a folding 23mm Conti Ultrasport in blue this year. Eight days later a 25mm rigid turned up, colour black. The tyre had a sticker with the incorrect description printed on it, aprox 2" away from the Continental lebel with the correct info.

    Not impressed at all.

funny enough i brought a bike then a month later some tyres and they were erfect. Je james have slow delivery, but they put that on their website, free post in reality is 3-5 days and paid is 1-3 (excluding bikes). I got everything nicely and in order, try phoning them up askign why theyre late or whatever...

HOWEVER i recently ordered a big package of helmet etc. 2 days later i got an email saying it had been dispatched by oyal mail 1st class recorded and gave me the code. I ws happy iand thought it was quick, however its been more than 2 weeks now and i still havent recieved it. Je james said they gotta wait 15 days till they can say its lost.... Still waiting.... its the royal mails fault though, so i cant really complain about je james.

I will never ATTEMPT to use them again!

I say attempt because i tried to order some bibshorts, a few days later i calld them just confirming when they will be despatched. They then said 'oh, we dont have any in stock'! Idiots didnt even let me know by email.

Shocking! Dont be tempted by the cheap prices!

I got an email last friday to say that my order had been dispatched. That's 1 week after ordering, said it was 1st class recorded. Today I get an email saying that part of my order is not in stock and I should give them a ring. I tried, no answer, please leave a message. Their service has certainly gon down hill. Will probably not use again.

Agree with above. They do say it will be 7 days unless you pay more. I have to say waiting a few extra days was worth it for the savings I made: Top of range Nike bib shorts down from £80 to £30; arm warmers and leg warmers down from £15 to £7. £66 saving is worth the wait IMO.

I tried to buy some wheels from them, FFWD. (over £1k) Sent several mails, no answer, called several times, they said they would call back but did not.
I got them elsewhere and discovered from the other seller that J.E.James do not even stock or import the wheels I wanted!!! (From the mouth of the importer)
Why do they advertise things they cannot even get?

    As mentioned previously
Free Post: J E James Free Delivery Option gives you FREE UK Mainland delivery on all orders over £5. Your order may take an additional 5-7 working days to arrive.

Additonal 5-7 working days, to me means you might not see your order for 2 weeks, if you want it faster, guess you have to pay - seems simple enough to me.

I ordered some Nike bibshorts last year because they were in the sale. 3 weeks later nothing had turned up. I ordered online but had phoned them first to check which size I would need. When I called to see where my order was they said that the Internet orders guy had forgot to pass on the order to whoever picks and dispatches it. I think they just did not have the stock.
I also believe some online shops advertise goods they do not stock at a good price then wait until they have enough orders to secure a discounted rate from a given supplier to fulfil the orders at the discounted price. Hence the long wait. I do not know if this is the case with jejames.
    Still thinking!

Shame, because when I recently bought a bike from the store (not via internet/post) they were great.

I ordered a 14-25 ultegra cassette because of the junior gear restriction. But they sent me a 12-27 cassette. A bit useless really! :x

So glad to hear about other peoples' trouble with this company. After ordering an item of clothing at the beginning of the week, I had received no confirmation email, despite the website itself telling me that the order had gone through ok. It was only when I myself contacted them about this that I was told (in a one sentance reply) that the item was out of stock (which was not the case when I ordered it.)

When I then replied asking how long until it could be dispatched, only then did their amazing customer service tell me (again in a short message that could not hide its impatience) it was in fact discontinued. This was nearly five days after the order.

I wasn't so bothered that it was sold out or even that it was discontinued altogether. What made me annoyed was that I firstly had to contact them to find out that in fact nothing had been put through at all, nor would it ever be! I was secondly annoyed at the response I got. No apology for the waste of my time, or uncertainty of whether my money had been taken or not...

'Our excellent reputation has been built on service and quality.' - What a load of bull.

Dave Hinde got in trouble for advertising stock they didn't have (an ASA adjudication). I presume the same obligations apply to web sites. If they are doing this they need to have their collars felt!!!

I find J.E. James website terrible to use. It´s full of ´dead´pages to discontinued stock.

I was after a Tacx trainer (flow or i-magic) and saw they´re still advertising the older excel and basic models - I thought I´d pick one of those up cheap, but surprise surprise, it´s 'out of stock'. They´re not getting any more are they? They´ve not been made for a couple of years...

This is just one example, but pretty much every time I search for something on line, J.E. James comes near the top of the results, and I´m then taken to page declaring no stock or a discontinued product.

I don't know if this is a policy to get people onto the site, or just sloppy website maintenance - but it certainly puts me off ordering things with them.

In fairness though, they´re not the only mail order company to take around a week or more to get stuff out, I think it´s just with companies such as CRC, Wiggle and Ribble raising their game, we´ve all come to expect 1-3 days as the norm for delivery times. I suppose it might come from trying to be all things to all people - Maybe you can either be a decent bike shop (or chain thereof) or a decent mail order company, but do the two combine well? Doesn't look like it.

A lot of bike shops decline to sell online because it requires a large investment in stock, obviously attempting to sell online without such stock leads to dissatisfaction (and I believe is wrong, misleading consumers, at best, against the rules of advertising at worst). JE James seem to be pushing their luck in this respect. I won't be using them regardless of price, I prefer to deal with "real" online vendors!

i received a email from j e yesterday saying they are just experiencing a delay due to an
unexpected amount of orders coming through.

im not worried yet though. it doesnt bother me if it takes a week to receive an item as long as i think im getting a bargain.

j.e.james was ok for me except the customer service was less customer friendly when i asked if my stuff has been dispatched. I brought my things under free delivery which took about 6 days to arrive to my door. Too long for me!

i would prefer uk bike store as they have order tracking section and also they are quick with the delivery service.

If you think that Je James are bad, dont ever try Bonthrone bikes. I ordered a helmet from them which was meant to be in stock - and a week later I received a email and a voice message on my phone saying that it was not in stock but it would be in a month. I phoned and cancelled the order and also sent them an email again saying that I want the order cancelled.

6 weeks later I received another email saying that due to a unforseen delay in getting the helmet in stock that my order was cancelled. I would have been very angry with them if the helmet had arrived after contacting them twice to cancel the order. They are cowboys and avoid them at all costs.

My order of 4 pairs of shorts, and 1 bib shorts arrived this morning.

I ordered it Wednesday before last, but in the evening, so effectively the 12th, and was despatched on Thursday 19th, and I would have had it on Saturday I'm sure, but had it delivered to work, so effectively 9 days from purchase to delivery, pretty much as per the expected time frame for deliveries.

Haven't had a chance to try them on, but first impressions are good.

    Cheers

arrrgghgh ive been trying to contact them in the last few days on every phone number they have for their Rotherham branch. I'm trying to sort out a "lost" package which has taken 3 weeks and i just cant get on to anyone. I've been phoning from after 4pm to 6pm which are the times the shop is open and the last few days NO ONE has picked up i always end up with this answer machine in the end after waiting on the phone for around 5-7 mins......

Anyone else got the same prob?

I had to return 2 pairs of shorts from my previous order, rang the number and got through immediately.

Only sent the parcel off yesterday, so will see how good hey are at processing the refund, and how much the admin fee is.

As these were the wrong size, instead of sending for an exchange, I went ahead and ordered different sized shorts on Thursday, and slightly bizarrely, these were despatched on Friday - the following day, unlike the previous order which took arounnd 7 days.

Maybe it depends what backlog of orders they have etc.

At this moment in time I have had zero bad experiences with JE James, I guess the proof of the pudding will be how well/quickly they handle the refund of the shorts.

    I will update accordingly.

    Cheers

I've had a similar experience - I ordered glasses which didn't turn up in time for me to take them on holiday (I think I ordered 5 days before going). When most companies manage to deliver next day or at least within 2/3 days, it was a bit disappointing.

Don't know much about JEJ but have usually used Parker-International. Seem to know what they're talking about and stuff takes 2/3days but you have to pay £3.95 a go. Other downsides are that online you don't get availability until you've placed the order, and you have to sign for deliveries, even if small enough to go through a letter box, so have to pick up from local RM sorting office if you're out during the day.
Ideal supplier 1) gives real availabillity, 2) email confirmation of order / posting 3) doesn't need to be signed for.

I don't know why people are still using them if all they have is bad experiences with them. Why not go somewhere else and get better service?

I haven't had any bad experiences with them so far, in about 5 orders - as long as they carry out my refund correctly, and in good time, I will continue to shop with them, there prices on some items, are very very good.

  • I've just made my third order with JE James and for the third time I have been advised 2 days after ordering, that they are out of stock. On past experience, I expect that the website will not be updated and other people will fall into the same trap. This is the last time I will be using them. I think that they are just advertising things that they don't have, in order to get more hits from Google searches.
