MTFU. I cycle along the coast, EVERY day has a headwind. :(

I do get the benefit of the tailwind on the way home though!

To the Vectra that gave me loads of room when you overtook me - many thanks. Just a pity you were not so considerate of the traffic coming towards you/us on the other side of the solid white line that you had crossed. Really though, you could have held back, there really is no need for the "must overtake bike" attitude, but if you have it, make sure and always give us that kind of room, even though you might have a head on collission, just make sure the wreckage from that does not fly my way.

To the bald, bearded idiot in I think shirt and tie, driving the white car that overtook me this morning in Cobham, you gave me plenty of room, but I have to wonder, as I did with a shake of my head, why did you bother to overtake me at all? Are you impatient or do you simply have a problem with status?

I was following closely enough the car in front and matching its speed of about 20mph, and we both know at the end of the road is a right angle bend that both of you are going to have to slow down for. Your overtake was wide but in doing so you simply then forced yourself in front me, forcing me to slow down and get out of your way, which is both rude and arrogant.

Considerably more unnecessary was the manouevre you then took when you saw you couldn't turn right at Portsmouth Road, due to the cars in front, and so stopped well short of them next to a parked car so I couldn't filter left, while you indicated right so if I went that way you could swing across the front of me and *accidentally* knock me off. Which obviously I'm not falling for so I simply slowed down slightly to avoid you altogether. Then when the cars were gone you accelerated away and turned right yourself.

Was that little display of pathetic power and aggression really required? You only held yourself up, not me.

Are you a sane driver and a worthy holder of a drivers licence, or are you, as I indicated with a finger pointed to my shaking head as you drove off, looking into your mirrors at me, simply an angry frustrated man, i.e. a nutjob?
'Twas Mulga Bill, from Eaglehawk, that caught the cycling craze....

    Dear bike shop,

When I said "Hope Pro IIs on Open Pro rims", that's actually what I meant.
Not "Hope Pro IIs and Open Pro rims".

And whilst we're there, I'd actually like the hubs as well as the rims.

It would also be really fab if you'd answer your phones so I could tell you this.

I dunno whether to just grab the hubs and buy spokes and build myself , insist that they provide wheels and return rims, or get them to send spokes too.

It's the whole insurance thing from ages back, and I've done reasonably well out of it - and I'm pretty fed up with chasing.

After the fun and games withe the courier company HDNL sending my Virgin media package back, it is Virgin media's turn today. I asked for the router to go to my Dad's place as he's retired and more likely to be home to receive the package. I get home today and find two routers from Virgin Media on the doormat, luckily inside the building away from prying eyes. Anybody want a D-Link Wi-Fi router?
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I am too slow for evening mountain biking :(

One of the guys had a quiet word on the road home to point out I was holding the others back so they were not managing to finish the ride before it was dark.

Looks like my Wednesday evenings just became free again :(

He didn't exactly say I shouldn't keep going out with them. But that was the gist of the conversation. Sort of a it's getting dark earlier and it isn't fair everyone having to finish in the dark because they all have to wait for you. Why not go away and work on your speed and fitness over the winter and we'll see you next year.

I can see their point. I wouldn't be that happy to have to keep stopping to wait for one person, especially when it meant not finishing the ride until it was dark. I don't even seem to have been a minute or two slower than them as one of the guys was driving away by the time I got to the car park :(

as others have said poor form, MTBing should be fairly causal if I go out of folks I expect to have to wait, if I want to hit the trails etc hard I go on my own.

if I want to chat and take it a bit easier I go with mates etc.

Not what we do. Nowt wrong with having to wait for people. Our Monday run is geared up for beginners, and those a bit slower. I never put pressure on people to keep up or ride a fast pace. If faster people want a faster run, then we split the bunch, some can do their own thing. But mostly we stick together, start together, and finish together.

To the WVM that overtook me, (I was in middle lane) then pulled accross my lane and realised that queueing traffic on the inside lane meant he had to stop suddenly in MY lane, forcing me to brake hard and fast. Next time hang back, look at the bleeding traffic ahead and act accordingly. I wont then need to stop alongside your open window and point out (politely) how your road positioning and manouvering is simply dangerous and inconsiderate. Next time I will not be so polite....

And to the flipping pedestrains with cases, bags and trollies that decided the red man was actually green, and proceeded to toddle out into the road as I was going through a green light. Please visit the optician or teh doctor, you do seem to have had a collective halloucination of a green man.

Finaly to the building janitor that has done something to the hot water the last 2 days, meaning I have had to have a cold shower. Please could you change the clock back? It is getting a little colder and I would appreciate some hot water to wash with in the morning.

    Thats all...... for now.

And another thing.... to my new back light, you may be called "Smart", but it is not big, nor clever to switch yourself on during the day, and off as I cycle home in the dark. Now you have just stopped working after only 3 days!! What is that all about. Yes, i know I did not pay much for you, but you should last longer than 3 days!!!

If everyone was able to keep the pace and get back to the car park before dark bar one person, you'd eventually get frustrated into mentioning it, for safetys sake if anything.

Maybe some Monday I'll demonstrate

No, not when riding in the dark is fun, and a few of us have rather bright lights and torches. Last week we got back in the dark and loved it. Come out this Monday and have fun.

    OT: Dear Project Sponsor,

I've given you my quotes for the spec and integration you want and so requesting that be cut 20% from the costs without changing anything is frankly laughable. The very definition of madness is performing the same actions in the same situation / environment and expetcing a different result. Oh, and Madam Programme Manager, you don't achieve a successful and productive project environment by telling people what they want to hear.

Yeah, rubbish - we've had the solstice - the nights are getting shorter and shorter - just means they have to take lights this week instead of starting to use them in a couple of weeks time.

    Strange.

Most mountain bikers I know are pretty accommodating.

Perhaps it was a hint that he thought you should invest in some decent nightriding lights? :)

    Lights, get some!

I picked up my new car yesterday and had to drive home across London in torrential rain, I lost count of the numbers of f*ckwits on bikes without them. I am glad it was pissing down, served them all right!

    Um, that's a bit narrow-minded of you.
Given when sunset is, it's perfectly understandable that people leaving work at 6 won't have lights, and will have been caught out by it.

Personally, I found it was more annoying having a load of people in cars who obviously didn't understand how to drive in the wet causing congestion everywhere.

Eriously, how difficult is it to set manhole covers flush with the road surface?

The raised edge on one trashed my wheel this morning. clipped the edge with my back wheel, but as it was wet, the wheel slid sharply off to one side ripping the head off the spoke nipple. Cue walk home (luckily only a mile or so) and a switch to the Dahon.

BTW, anyone done any home maintenance on these? I have another pair of the same wheels (with damaged rims) so could nick a replacement nipple from them, rather than waiting for the LBS to order them in. Don't have a truing stand though.

    Dear Mr tractor driver

Whilst it is awfully kind of you to not pull into the other lane of the dual carriageway and hold up the motor vehicles, the cyclist you passed would be most grateful if you would do just that. Whilst you are not overtaking me at such a speed to suck me under your huge wheels I'd still rather not be quite so close to them (and the scary looking trailer you were towing).

Also on behalf of the van driver you pulled out in front of at the roundabout (causing him to have to break and swerve around you), give way to traffic coming from right applies to all vehicles not just the fast ones.

    And btw...you smell!!
