Yesterday evening; too tired to keep working from home, do homework w/ 7 y.o., home chores, and then be arsed to cook Ratatouille. Let's just hope I'll have the strength later today.
In other news: my Edge 25 and my Nokia have split up. Can't even see each other.0 -

elbowloh wrote:Just seen this on the Guardian. Now, obviously this nutter should be caught, prosecuted and banged up, but this is probably going to get undue media attention now in relation to other violent crimes committed by arseholes who were not on a bike.
Even when you watch the video, it comes up with a suggested discussion point of "do cyclists think they are above the law?" this is one incident, a "cyclist" not "cyclists".

I know its of the man bite dogs variety of news reporting, and you certainly cant condone it, but that every national newspaper & media outlet covers it
where as this, which also happened in London...not even headlined as motorist hit & runs on a teenage cyclist anymore (the earlier article at least mentioned it was a cyclist who was crushed by the car)

Not cycling. The siren call of Steam gaming platform special offers drew me in on Monday with £10 for a game normally nearly £40.
Bought game, then finally had to admit I definitely don't have the PC to do it justice any more and have now spent another £350 on new hardware so I can play it.

Try playing it with the squidling ... at 2am ...
And little elbowloh will end up thinking think Coopster's posts in the Brexit thread are those of a left-wing, SJW snowflake...
My gaming high is now provided by a Switch that both kids love. I love it too, and so does my father. My wife, or my mother? Not so much! I've suggested maybe grandad may get a switch for Xmas, which has been received with a death stare from my mom.0 -
er - a switch, beyond being a method to turn things on/off, to me, is something I plug network cables in ...
wtf is a switch?!
btw - we use our phones as gaming base for Little SB ... Thomas Minis is a favourite ... for him, not for us ... although it does usually give us some leeway to get the jobs sorted!0 -
A switch is Nintendo's latest console, which can be played as a portble device, or hooked up to the telly. Really evil.

Back on a cycling rant...
It seems my rear aksium is finally giving up the ghost. It has a few corroded nipples and, until recently, two loose spokes I couldn't seemingly tighten. On the ride to work this moring, the sound was not encouraging. Can now confirm 4 out of 20 spokes are loose, and I couldn't really tighten any with a spoke key, or with a spoke key plus pliers. The 9 km in the short path way back home are going to be tense.
Meanwhile, of course, cyclescheme haven't yet given me the voucher my employer approved a week ago for the bloody zondas...0 -
Back on the gaming - I have a Switch also got one pretty much at launch because the Legend of Zelda series of games are my all time faves. Still haven't bloody finished Breath of the Wild. I wanted to take my time and explore the whole game, but now i've run out of time!0

So, on the the commute this morning was sat at the lights to enter Vauxhall Cross from Wandworth road. There was a chap from one of the building works there sweeping up the pavement and he just brushed all the detritus into the road, right where I would be going once the lights were green. Great. Thanks.
Next, as I was going up Charing Cross Road, there was a chap dampening down the pavement outside the new Foyles development and he (deliberately it seemed) tried to hose me down as I passed (it was aimed at the pavement, but then he raised it up, in the air and into the road across my path) and i swerved a bit to avoid.0 -

Fun chat with a white van man on the way home. Riding on a gradual downhill with 2 cars not far in front, he decides he needs to overtake. Gets halfway past me and realises he can't overtake me properly without kissing bumpers with the car in front. So he just sits next to me and begins to ease over towards the kerb (and me) instead.
I give him 1 decent knock on the side panel so he knows I'm there. He pulls back out slightly and a little way up the road pulls over, window down. Now he's not screaming at me so I pull up ready for a reasonable talk.
Did you hit my van??
I knocked on your van yeah.
Why you hitting my van? I knew you were there. You shouldn't be trying to undertake people.
I wasn't undertaking you...
Yeah you were I overtook, then you started trying to undertake me. Why you hitting my van?
You got about halfway past me and stopped, then started pulling over towards me, that's why I...
Why you hitting my van? Don't hit my van! Do you have a car?
Yeah...?
Would you like it if someone hit your car? The car you've worked hard to pay for? Don't hit my van!
Well if it was a choice between them knocking on ...
DON'T HIT MY VAN! *drives off*
I overtook him at the queue 200m up the road and gave a friendly wave, didn't see him again.
Think he was hoping for an apology for hitting his van but if it's a choice between his van hitting me or me knocking on it and doing no damage other than to his feelings then I'd do the same every time.- Genesis Croix de Fer

In my experience of doing this, the fact he didn't subsequently attempt to kill you is a positive. I would not hit someone's car/van unless it's the only way not to die.0

I'd have just shouted - quicker and you don't take a hand off the bars - banging on vans is a shortcut to roadrage.0

yeah but can they hear you ? whilst I know banging on vans is really really bad idea I have been tempted to give some of these numpties overtaking me lately a good slap on the side or roof, which shows how close theyve been getting, but sticking the tongue stick out and blowing kisses for the time being0 -

That's the thing yeah. Totally agree you risk escalating things but I was halfway down the side of his van, on the opposite side to him, and his passenger window was shut. You'd have to shout pretty loud.- Genesis Croix de Fer

I've never had the opportunity to tap on someones vehicle - by the time I notice they're coming past too close they've gone ... fortunately...0 -
