Completely overdressed this morning. Thermo said 6 degrees, went merino base and l/S jersey. Turns out I was in a cold, foggy hollow and it wasn't the same 1mile up the road.
Absolutely melted when trying to fight that headwind!

    Fuckwit MGIF van driver ...

Down a hill ~ 25mph in a 30 limit - no I wasn't trying - there's a tight 90° left bend at the end (I go left) - or you can turn right. Car over takes me - a bit late - but ok - then van trys to overtake me too - hang on - the car in front is going right and having to wait. Van driver nearly pulls alongside me then slows down ... then wtf - he's turning right too ??

What is wrong with drivers that you can't wait - what was it ... about 2 seconds ...

well - now to see if I've got it on the Aldi cam ...

Cyclists turning left from the Pen Ponds Cafe in RP to go up the hill to the ballet school.. There's no need to take the racing line and hit the far side of the road... especially when I'm coming towards them. It must happen 1/3 times I go down that way.

Having to work 8-4 next week is coming as a shock to the system after doing 2-10 for the last 5 years and means a 05:30 alarm call and leave for work about 06:45. Hopefully no traffic at that time of day to slow me down but there will be on the ride home that I'll sail past and smile.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Doing 25mph on a 40mph road with kids trailer attached. Double whites but an absolute TWUNT took umbridge to me riding in primary with a kids trailer behind me, decided to deliberately push me out of the way, despite no oncoming traffic.
Absolute gob&&Ses driver. Hopefully the Aldi camera got it, not that Hampshire Police will do anything with it.

Wheels are still in China. Apparently it's been a golden week in Hong Kong (three plus bank holidays) and so the courier basically closed their distribution center for the week.

Fair enough, but some comms would have been nice.

Farmers spreading mud all over the road and not cleaning it up.
It's bad enough that I have to slow down to get around it on a bike, but when cars and vans are having to do the same it's pretty bad.
Fortunately the highway authority in that area seem pretty good at getting it cleared up when it's reported, not that they should be paying to sort it out when they could be fixing potholes.
Hopefully the Aldi camera got it, not that Hampshire Police will do anything with it.
Had a close-ish one this morning (2 lane dual carriageway, overtaking lane was totally empty...). Aldi cam got it despite having lumps of mud all over it, debating whether to send it in.
The driver was probably over a metre a way (so that's generous around here) but it was the slamming it into second gear, revving the engine hard to go past, pulling in and then slowing up in front of me that annoyed me. It was a police car

I've found that the camera doesn't always record what I recall happening ... never seems to get quite the right angle ... however, if you can view the video cold and interpret it as bad driving then I'd report it too ... and if you get cold shoulder from the police then pass it to the local press to publish with the caption "If our police cannot respect cyclists, how can we expect others too?" ... or similar.

Friend has done that before and ended up getting an interesting result ( picture of the driver of the vehicle giving cake fines out to the road coppers who work the Op Close Pass locally...

Not quite the message he was expecting, but probably a lot more powerful.

Puncture last night (second one in two months on different bikes, but those were the only ones so far in 2017): the dreaded FG rear wheel as well which always makes removal a joy. Glass shard so big it could have been seen from space.

But anti-rant, thousands of km of carrying this beast around finally paid off:

I was once refused entry through airport security because of this thing (after all, who doesn't need their track bike tool on hols), had to check my bag; and the bag inspectors at QPR were deeply suspicious of my intentions as an away fan (FFC cycling ultras, a fearsome crew indeed). But all is forgiven.

Getting prepared for a bit of a hill climb this morning, stood out of saddle & heard a ping from the chain area, as the chain skipped.
unbalanced, I wrenched my back trying to avoid groin and cross bar meeting. Just been to inspect the bike during lunch time, and it turns out I appear to have ripped out a tooth from the big chainring. tw@t

Trying out the turbo last night and finding it peeling off a lovely ribbon of rubber from my tyre. Can't seem to get the wheel to sit anywhere near the centre of the roller. got it 2nd hand with no instructions. Anyone have any experience with an Elite Crono Mag trainer?

Had to pick up Haggis Jr. from childcare, so had to revert from long way back home to the normal path across Edinburgh's old town (strike 1). I suspect the traffic lights are set up to maximise journey time and driver annoyance (stike 2). Today at least I was somewhat lucky, and could descend Dundas St. in one go. A lady cyclist took more risks filtering through, and thought I'd have some uncommon SCR, but RLJ'ed at the end, ruining my joy (strike 3).

For bonus points, had a delivery van parked on double yellows next to a busy junction. Bloody hell, don't they realise these double yellows are there for a reason?

No rules saying you cannot load and unload on double yellow lines.
How else is he supposed to deliver or collect?

Cause of doing 8-4 this week the alarms are set for stupidly early, they went off this morning and I hit snooze knowing another alarm will go off in 15 minutes. Woke up and looked at the time and it was time I should leave for work so it was out of bed and down my cereal and finish loading the pannier and put a couple of biscuits up the leg of my shorts instead of having time to have some toast and take the shorter route to work. Made it in on time but felt tired all day. When asked if I had enough sleep I said I'd had too much and overslept.

First, he'd be loading and unloading into nothing. And second, he could move the van literally 5 meters forward, and stop obstructing the view in the junction.

    Feckin wind.

Nearly packed this morning, sacked it all off, sold my gear and bought a train pass.

Saw another bloke on further on my way in, made it seem less bad so feeling a bit better now. Still considering knocking it on the head for the winter though.

Slow down into the wind. A couple mph slower is remarkably easier than trying to churn out a higher figure.

I would have toppled over if I'd gone any slower. TBH it wasn't that it was particularly hard, my routes to work are all exposed in places and the wind was swirly this morning, gave me a few directional issues.

there are if there was a yellow line on the kerb, often called pips for some reason, and you still arent allowed to cause an obstruction regardless, only the postie has an exemption as they are delivering the monarchs mail.

Was driving in this morning (rant in itself) along side the CS7 past Clapham common, as we're coming up to the left turn at Rookery Road, I see this big flatbed lorry go to overtake a cyclist and is then going to clearly just turn left across him into Rookery. I'm screaming "nooooo" as I could see it being very nasty if the cyclist isn't aware of his manoeuvre. I was squirming in my seat anticipating the worst.

It was so dangerous, luckily the cyclist anticipated it and slowed down, but why the lorry driver didn't just wait for a few seconds I don't know. I was going down Rookery also and was close to getting out of the car to rant at him at the next lights, but don't think it would have done anything.
