  • Motorbikes on the motorway. Yes I understand you are free to filter at lower speeds but why you have to do it between a lorry and a van at 60mph I don't know.

Skyhigh bliddy motorway services prices (and airport food prices). Especially when big national companies like M&S, WHSmith, Costa and Greggs join in this highway robbery. Just because I happen to be travelling doesn't mean I agreed to be knifed in the wallet. No wonder granny packed a picnic basket for trips.
  • This morning I have decided that I'll be going back to cycling on the roads mostly and not mainly on cycling 'highways' for the following reasons;

    1. majority of cyclists are using them, including nodders and learners (they're dangerous!)
    2. the highway makes you late to work because of all the cyclists and stopping lights

    There are many other reasons.....

On the motorway (the M27) most of the drivers seem to want to use only the outside lane, leads to queue of traffic doing 50-60mph in lane three and two nearly empty lanes.
yes - but that's the fast lane don't you know ...

my occaisional jaunt up the M27 sees me cursing at the middle lane hogs - nothing on the inside for ages yet they sit there ensuring everything has to change lanes to get past them - it's just a recipie for a tailback - with everyone sat in the outside lane ...

Just pass on the inside, it's perfectly acceptable as long as you're not weaving trhough the traffic and you're not exceeding the limit

The behaiour of drivers on the M27 is the reason I changed jobs and re-invigorated the cycle commuting..

And it's not like they're likely to pull in and hit you.

Cycled to work today, got through the first hour quite easily. Treated myself to a krispy kreme one of the bosses brought in, and as I finish up get a call asking me to pick the other half up from work, as she is unwell.

Que me cycling home as fast as I can to pick up the car, with a barely digested donut inside me. Fortunately it's only 5km but it still wasn't the most pleasant experience.

My rant is because I didn't set my MS band off, so my ride wasn't recorded, and I reckon it was easily my fastest ride home, what with the extra adrenaline and the complete lack of traffic to slow me down.

But at least the fiancee is in one piece, and is back at home on the sofa.

Charged a knog blinder 3 at work after it shut off on commute this morning. Used it on commute home on full power to light the dark rural road and it only lasted 30 mins before changing to economy mode.....pants.

Started the process to remove old hydraulic brakes from frame and replace with new.
Go to put new ones on, turns out I've been given two front brake sets. Argh.

If I'm taking the lane approaching a set of red lights, I'm doing this to protect my own personal safety. DO NOT try to overtake me, there is not enough space to do this safely,... or just like this morning, your door mirror will probably hit me and end up broken.

Set off without a bidon today. Not an issue for riding in either direction but I miss having a bottle at my desk all the time.

Hard enough to break it? Blimey, bet they still though it your fault! :-(

Done that several times and after reaching down to find an empty cage you'd think I'd remember the bottle isn't there. No, I reach down a further 3/4 times.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Lost a back light (lezyne microdrive) - hopefully knocked off at home / in office somewhere but more likely en route.

I dont bother with a bottle for the 10 mile commute - I can cope for 1/2hr without a drink - unless it's really hot, then I'll take a little bit ..

I instinctively grabbed it as they guy turned into me, saved my bacon no doubt. The mirror came half-off in my hand from the impact, and was dangling from the car. The driver didn't even seem to care (was a crappy old fiesta and had those huge headphones on, totally oblivious to his surroundings...) and only glanced at me when I screamed at him to open his eyes.

As I say, it's not really for the ride, it's more for when I'm at work. If I have a bidon on my desk I'm drinking all the time, but if I forget it then I forget to drink. I do the same when I wfh; it gets to 2pm and I suddenly realise the last time I took a drink was my 10.30 coffee.

Do you guys not have standards with regard to what crockerty & glassware you use?

Why would you voluntarily drink from a plastic bottle when you have glassware at your disposal?

A bottle holds more. Approximately three times more.

    No.

Actually we don't have glassware at work. We have those little plastic water cooler cups. They are tiny.

    You guys. Sheesh.

I'd buy my own glassware if there wasn't any.

Who wants to drink from plastic? Eugh.

Next you'll be telling me you mainly drink coffee from plastic/paper cups.

I drink wine from glass. Water I'm less bothered about. Certainly not bothered enough to worry about buying a glass and then washing / storing it; hot desks with no at desk storage. I see no value in it.

I have coffee from paper cups with plastic lids at work because that's what the baristas serve it in.

picked up a Clarks brake cable kit at Halfords. Missing ferrules and cable ends from the box. I have some bits here (10 miles from nearest Halfords) so will make do. Very much a 1st world problem I suppose...
