Just popped to the LBS. £16.50 for 3 no brand inner tubes.

    £16.50. That's £5.50 each.

I can get 5 of wiggles own lifeline inner tubes for £7 with platinum discount.

On this. 4 b*stard pf visits yesterday, 3 on the way in to work and 1 on the way home.

Wouldn't care, I gave the tyre and wheel a decent inspection at work to try and find anything in them but missed a shard of glass that would only intrude once force was applied to wheel.

Followed an obviously lost lorry driver this morning, he decided not to stop on the main road to check, nor the next perimeter road and instead turned into a road with a dead end sign and proceeded all the way to the end and parked part way into the bus and cycle only link blocking both me and the bus already in it from using it. Thanks mate

    Ok - let's start ..

Portsmouth Water have some road works on an A road to replace the water main - no problem you think ...
twice now, I've been the last vehicle to go through (shortly after the light goes green) only to find that the oncomming traffic is starting on their green light by the time I get to the other end - no I'm not hanging about.

Farm vehicle drivers - I let the first of you overtake on an uphill clear stretch - I hadn't expected 3 long vehicles to be overtaking and crowding me in, yes - you were a bit too close for comfort and you really should wait until there's enough room in front of me before you start your overtake. But then - just clear - Don't pull into the side to allow the cars to overtake too ... yes - I'm just going to go past you again - prats!

Ah, not just me then. Thankfully I don't have to touch eastern road, but I completely concur with you around the light timing, loads of colleagues have been complaining.
Re the farm drivers, completely concur - thankfully most have started to recognize me & understand my pace, so we've begun to pick up a mutual level of respect

PS - ring Portsmouth water and complain, asking for additional time on the lights. There is "somewhere" a guideline to include timing for "vulnerable users" on timing of lights.

Had my first ding dong with a pedestrian this morning at end of Norton Folgate, city type standing in middle of road glaring at me as I rode up and stopped six inches from him.
"I think the red light applies to you as well" he said, "this is a cycle box you idiot, that is the crossing over there" says I, at which point he called me a fascist and walked off

Ah - this isn't Eastern road - I don't have a reasonable alternative - there's a "bike path" but the surface is flint - not so good on road tyres! I've emailed PW & West Sussex Highways - lets see if they resolve it.

Farm vehicle drivers - I normally make an effort to give them (and lorries) an easy overtake - I've got no desire to hold them up - but it's got to be a 2 way thing - don't overtake if you're just going to stop in front of me ... !

Heard a very loud "ping/clatter/clatter/ping" as a stone skipped across the road from under my rear tyre and hit a car in the other lane quite hard.

Given that I ping stones around every day (some of them fairly chunky and sharp) riding on the canal towpath on 700c28 GP 4 seasons could it be that you aren't putting enough pressure in the tyres?

I only get flats like that when I've let my typres go down too much.

Is it apprentice stock picker week or something?

Order for Vavert Super Grip tape from ebay results in the delivery of generic white cork tape. I now have to return it to get the proper tape sent to me.

I've just opened my box from CRC that should be a Thomson Elite seatpost only to find a Thomson Elite X4 stem inside. It wasn't even the right colour.

Grrr. I've got a busy day tomorrow so I doubt I can make it to the post office.

Turns out it wasn't stone related but a large shard of glass. Really not impressed by the 4 seasons puncture resistance.

Is there any tyre that withstands large shards of glass?

Ride home in dark , rural roads, I just make out a bloke standing at side of road on a tight bend, no hi viz no torch nada, as I'm about 5 ft away and doing about 18mph I see him waving/ gesticulating at cars behind me, not at me and not a word from him to me. As I round the bend I'm met with cars in my side of the road that have gone round a lorry that's stopped before the bend coming opposite direction., just missed me by inches as I went up the verge into the hedge line. I assume he had called the cars round the lorry and then tried to stop the others without indicating to me! 6 miles on I nearly take out 2 pedestrians that come out of the dark on another bend , no torches , walk out from the left to cross in front. Managed to swerve and just miss them, they squealed, I effed. Further down the road 2 more peds that weren't carrying any torches, luckily my 2 knog blinders picked them out on the straight road.
  • Shard of glass would explain it. I've had pretty good results with the 4 seasons but glass is the one thing i don't really encounter much of. What comes of riding on non-urban roads and towpaths most of the time. ;)

Far point, probably not, and i've heard that the GP4seasons are very sticky so stuff that gets stuck in them does slowly work it's way though the rubber.

  • DPD (and Wiggle).

Following last week's debacle where 2 orders next day meant anything but, they've screwed it up again.

Friday order, 12 pm, despatched. Next day paid for. Doesn't arrive, doesn't even make the delivery depot. Refund fee. Engage in messaging etc.

Don't worry they said, at least it will be with you Monday.

Monday morning, message from DPD, your parcel has been delayed.....................

Why are there so many lethal slippery white lines on CS3 Narrow Street - 20 mph signs, chevrons for speed bumps, white arrows, SLOW...can they not use the non slippery paint just as they have on Cable Street?

I've said this already in this (or possibly another) thread, but needs getting off my chest again after the missus was watching x factor last night:

Musicians using their bodies to sell music - ESPECIALLY when their fan base is teeny boppers.

Watching Little Mix prancing around in what looked like g-strings singing about how they're better off without their ex's...I'd be mortified if I had daughters and they looked up to them or the like.

What example are they trying to set to girls/women?

It's the likes of X Factor, Strictly etc that makes me happy to be working most Saturday nights though I had a 1/2 day last weekend and got home and turned the TV on to find Strictly on the TV, luckily I had plenty of programs on the Tivo to catch up on.

Charged the Aldi nebula rear on sunday on a 200ma/5v charger.
Used it for Monday am & pm ride on lowest flash setting - 1 hour ten mins total on time.
At end of ride, checked the lights not warning of out of battery (blue light isn't flashing when powered on).
Come this morning - it's dead.
    Back up light deployed :(

Another commuting disaster last night, following 4 pf visits one day last week.

Going up a small hill last night my rear mech catches on something and before I know it has broke the hanger and in the spokes taking the mudguard with it. Nice 4 mile walk to meet the wife in the car.

Luckily the wheel is fine, but I've had to borrow my dad's old Allez which required much fettling to get it ready to go this morning.
  • Silly nurse in a mock 4x4 trying to turn left across me, with no room. When I asked what she thought she was doing, as she nearly killed me, she responded with "I saw you". She had to stop at the light all of 5 yards ahead anyway.
Well if you saw me, why did you try to get through a gap between me and the car in front that had stopped for the lights. There was plenty of room to drop in behind me without trying to create yourself some extra workload. Is the NHS short of patients at the moment!?

Getting to that time of year when it's a gamble on armwear, currently still in short sleeves with arm warmers taken for the 10pm ride home though they are put on 200 yards from work so it looks like I rode home in short sleeves.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • On the motorway, drivers who pull from stationary (often from the outside lane) in to free flowing traffic (30mph+) in lane two.

    Without signalling

    Without looking
“Jij bent niet van suiker gemaakt”
  • On the motorway (the M27) most of the drivers seem to want to use only the outside lane, leads to queue of traffic doing 50-60mph in lane three and two nearly empty lanes.
