That combined with the rubbish alarms setup (compared to android) and so far I'm not overly impressed!

My rant : Twunts in Audis. Does just sitting in one of these cars immediately turn you into a complete and utter C*&$?

That's about as logical as referring to all cyclists as c@*ts.

Yes, sorry about that. One of the many reasons I hate my Audi.
My rant is people that can't control their dogs. Large weimaraner chased the guy in front of me then turned and went for me in Bushy Park this morning. Luckily I had virtually stopped by the time it turned to me and I'm not scared of dogs. Guy in front was quite shaken by it. The dog had been quite a way off and had run a fair distance to get to us, dogs like that shouldn't be off a lead if they can't be controlled.

I had an occurrence in RP last year. Great big white dog smacked head first into the side of me at full pelt (it, not me), knocked me off the road and on to the verge, like a sideways bunny-hop. Somehow managed to stay upright.

No it isn't. It's about as logical as saying 'does just riding a fixie turn you into a big bearded, sailor tattooed rolled up jean wearing hipster?'

It's playing on the fact that ***** often choose to drive Audi's. Not everyone who drives an Audi is a ****. The proportion just seems to be considerable. Similarly, hipsters often choose to ride fixies (not so true anymore, as most hipsters seem to have moved onto vintage steel tourers....)

Why, just this morning, someone in an Audi impatiently overtook me on the blind crest of a hill (about 5 seconds later and they'd have been straight into the car coming the other way) only in order to turn immediately into a driveway to the left, which already had a bloke with a pushchair starting to walk across it - which audi driver proceeded not to wait for and pull in anyway, thus demonstrating themselves a ****.

Why, just this morning I saw a cyclist jump a red light therefore all cyclists etc etc etc

I appreciate that this sort of generalisation is often used to lazily lump groups of people together, but do you really feel it's necessary to reduce the rants section to such boring, soulless statements as 'Many audi drivers were complete shits to me this morning'?

Can we not add a little humour through the drawing of deliberately crude sweeping generalisations that are clearly made in jest?

What's the actual problem here? Do you feel that Audi owners are some kind of highly oppressed minority that deserve more respect and better treatment from the cyclist community?

Even Clarkson on Top Gear a few years back said that all the c0cks had stopped driving BMWs and were driving Audis. Particularly pleasing as 2 weeks earlier a friend of mine had sold his BMW and bought an Audi.
Rants are by their very nature are irrational as illustrated by the bloke on Priory Lane in the black 4x4 recently. Now that's a rant.
Can we start slagging off people in 4x4s now? Especially Audi 4x4s, even more so if they are black Audi 4x4s.

Riding to work today I heard something hit my helmet and didn't think anything of it, could have been a fly or a low branch. A few seconds later I realised it was a bee that had hit my helmet cause it found a vent and was expressing it's anger by stinging me and it was still stinging when I took my helmet off 20 seconds later. The area where I was stung now hurts and itches.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

  • That's bikes banned from the secure store/showers under my office thanks to the wave of fairweather nodders who have stated turning up. Thank you. Am yet to learn what the 'improved security' is in the loading bay where bikes were getting knicked from.

I decided against wearing my Alpha jersey today and plumped for a long sleeve Torm with no baselayer and no gloves.

    This.
I picked short sleeves and shorts today: I was wobbling all over when I took my shoes off at work as couldn't feel my toes or heels.
Why did they say that it will be 18C degree today?

Because it will be 18 degrees today. Why did you dress for the temperature it's going to be this afternoon, rather than the temperature it actually was when you left the house?

I was nice and comfy with arm warmers and a gilet, neither of which I expect to need this evening. A few weeks ago I was also wearing leg warmers and overshoes on the way to work.

With a few exceptions, the temperature normally starts lower in the morning, and increases throughout the day. The weather forecast gives you all this information; It's not exactly rocket science...

The predicted real-feel was around 8C in the morning when I left: it was chilly but not too cold.
I usually run pretty hot so it wouldn't have bothered but I think it was more of a 5C which would have warranted at least a long sleeve top. I check morning/afternoon+ chance of rain but in the last two days Accuweather got it wrong. Unfortunately my room is taken over by my mother in law so I have no chance to "pop in" to pick up a long sleeve top from my box at 6am.
At least it didn't take me 2 hours to defrost....

I left just after 6 and I was cold but OK but as time passed my feet got rather cold and numb.
My commute us about 2,5 hours (doing it one way only) and it's hard to gauge whats the weather is going to be.

Indeed. But the great thing about this time of the year is that you can avoid the need to carry all that gear back in a rucksack if the morning weather is kind. I can live with 8 degrees even in an short sleeve if I know it's going to be 20 on the way home. But, that 8 degrees needs to be actual rather than 25mph in your face feels like 2. That's what did me in today.

Arm warmers and a gilet don't take up much space in a pocket (which is where mine were by the time I got to work anyway). But if getting cold enough to warrant a post on the rants thread is a price you're happy to pay for having that pocket empty on the way home, don't let me stop you :-)

Well, this morning, ideally, I'd also have needed gloves. And possibly knee warmers or 3/4's. It was that bracing. The solution is, like a warm winter or mild spring day, to take a change of kit in for the warmer commute home.

That's a rant worth having in almost mid June............... FWIW I was merely temperate with a long sleeve Torm jersey on the way home rather than too hot.

Only a minor rant but given the headwind yesterday morning, the anticipated tailwind on the way home certainly didn't live up to expectations.

No complaints here. I've absolutely flown home the last two evenings, spinning out on the single speed in no time - 20mph completely effortless.

This morning was resistance training again... presumably another spin session to look forward to on the way home.

I'm actually slightly worried as I'm moving house soon and will be going from an east/west commute to a south/north commute - the crosswinds will probably take a bit of getting used to.

It's a weird wind - a northerly maybe or north-easterly? Certainly going round Richmond Park last night it was hard to tell which section it was behind on, probably cos it wasn't fully behind anywhere.
