I once got my folks to bring me some 618s back from the States where they were holidaying. 32"W 34"L. Jesus, you could have fit two of me in them, despite the fact I was probably a 34"W at the time.

    #ussizing #gimmiebigmacgimmiefriestogo

Yeah its a nightmare in the USA i spend a lot of time working in NY and usual pop down to Macys in the week and try on dozens of pairs until i find one that fit, i've not idea why but US sizing just doesnt work. top tip if anyone finds themselves in NY, Macys and i suspect the other big department stores have a tourist discount scheme, just go to the customer services desk and ask, Macys is 10% on top of whatever.

$20 for 501's thank you very much just a shame my usual 512's are european only.

This was a friends bike after an incident with an HGV on her commute Thursday morning.

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/qvqorivuti9uk ... h.jpg?dl=0

Luckily she escaped lightly with road rash and some mental scarring. The bikes KO'd but she isn't.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Bike v HGV at this junction heading in the direction shown.

Not sure of exact circumstances but HGV came from her right at junction. Knowing the girl in question, doubt a RLJ on her part.

Therefore either a) don't or b) if you do, please maintain the requisite distance from me as per the Highway Code.

That's a really odd looking cycle setup - the cycle lane is on the pavement, there's no stop line or dismount sign there, so it appears as though you can just go straight on following the cycle lane after the crossing regardless of the lights... that's what I'd assume anyway! Not sure if that'd be right though...?

A visit from the PF today and then opened my kit bag to find that my patches had disappeared and there was only a knackered old tube in there. Closer inspection of the tyre showed that that was buggered as well.

And then I couldn't get a new Gatorskin onto the rim and so had to leave the bike at the bike shop to get it sorted out.

Having someone else fix my punctures, I feel so ashamed...

That's exactly what she was doing, when I've used that road I stay on the road. Police attending said the junction layout is bad and due for a redesign soon.

Eeek! Glad to read that she's O.K. - ATR tripster? I know that road (our web firm is at the gasworks), and would have been on the carriageway, but have seen plenty of cyclists on the shared path pass the lights to their right.

    Cock.

Couldn't work out why I was getting such terrible shifting when running in the middle (39t) ring on the Felt. Put it in the big ring just to get home on Thursday and everything was fine; so I figured it was an indexing or FD issue.

Put the bike on the stand this afternoon and span the crank, only see the chain not seating quite right at a certain point and the weird clicking I heard corresponded with this. It was kind of obvious it was rubbing the FD at this point but I coiuldn't see why.

Dropped the chain to the granny ring and then it was obvious... the middle ring has stripped 3 teeth in one point and shaved sections off several others. Basically it's completely farked.

Anyone know where to get a replacement 5703 39t chainring in black? I can only find one place and it's in Germany :(

Does it have to be a particular style? If it's just a black chainring, Spa Cycles sell black TA and Stronglight rings. They are very good and normally much cheaper than Shimano or Campag rings.

It does for me :) I like things to match and I managed to find a replacement for £18 off Amazon of all places!

Forgot to order a new chain as well but I'll pop out to the LBS tomorrow and grab one

What I meant was is it an over stylized Shimano ring or one that looks fairly standard? The TA and Stronglight rings match most cranksets very well. I've got a Stronglight inner ring on my Ribble. It looks identical to a Campag ring.

  • Everytime a cycling article comes up on the FleetNews website you get the usual anti-cycling brigade.

Then I notice that the picture they use for the article depicts the driver holding his mobile phone
