I was badly cut up riding home tonight, whilst riding down hill at 15+ mph. I was going much slower than usual because of the weather and roads being slippery. Up ahead there is a five-way crossroads. Cars routinely, pull out into the middle of the road, wait and then continue when clear. I'm always wary...

I see the car pulling out into the middle of the road. I start riding more defensively and prepare to slow down. Is it going to pull out across me? Nope it's slowed and is waiting - oh wait - no its going across me. SH*T slam on brakes, skid, swerve and just make contact.

Driver says she's sorry, initially, I say watch where you're going ...

But this is the bit that gets me. Then she claims that I had had enough time to see her and that I should have slowed down, and been more careful. Yeah of course luv - it's my fault /wtf. Seriously what fecking logic goes through driver's brains? She had stopped in the middle of the road and had waited for about 2 seconds, giving her plenty of time to look, yet it's my fault

If it helps, drivers never think they're at fault when they cause collisions with other drivers, either.

Possibly, but a) she wasn't my type and b) my jacket, cheese and beans would have got cold...

Put a small drill bit into my finger earlier tonight whilst it was spinning at 8,000rpm  But I was a big brave boy and didn't cry, I just reached for blankie and teddy.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Ouch, I've often dremelled my finger... but the little ones don't hurt half as much as the big-uns... I tried removing the top of a finger using a 25mm end mill at 500rpm

And just as I'm beginning to doze off my neighbour and their visitor decide to pop out into the garden for a smoke and a very loud conversation. I am now wide awake again.

    Thank you very much @ssholes.

Boiler making gurgling sound this morning, then cutout, @rse. Turns out condensing pipe is frozen*, so i've disconnected it and put a bucket under the boiler and it's now back on, yay! Now I need to keep an eye on the bucket and keep emptying it until the pipe defrosts, @rse.

*yes the pipe is lagged, The garden thermometer is reporting minus 8....

  • -9 here and the kitchen is bereft of water as the pipes coming down from above in the outside wall have frozen (and yes they are lagged and the wall is 12" thick but its a solid wall). Fortunately everything else is ok... Looks like won't riding today tho :(, just too cold. Was -5 when I got home last night and my teeth were chattering, thats about my limit...

Driving home from a recording session last night at about 11pm, roads are really quiet, get to a junction where I have to give way so I look around and there's nothing, go to pull out and a ninja on a bike does a bit of a skid and starts yelling his nuts off at me. I wind the window down and point out the error of his ways in riding a bike at night on poorly lit roads wearing a black coat and dark jeans and the lack of any bike lights, to which he tells me to go forth a multiply several times. Bloody cyclists, twats the lot of 'em...

Did an hour on the x-trainer earlier, but its not the same (it's a bloody sight harder work )

Positively mild out there now +5degC... but getting dark and I can't be arsed... mind you the commute over the next few days should be much more pleasant than of late...

I find my hangovers have developed with my taste over the years. A good single malt for example does not give me a hangover, but cheap wine or lager does everytime....

Been there. Took it to Cyclelab to be asked the obvious question, followed by an "oh....ngggh....that is stuck on well isn't it" Eventually shifted it with a 2 foot pedal spanner.

And my own rant: have left wallet at home AGAIN. I am one of those people who needs to stick to a routine. If I deviate from that routine, then my whole world goes to sh!t within hours. Have done this often enough now that I am considering leaving some spare cash in my desk drawer.

I have, in one desk drawer, spare shirt, cufflinks, spare underwear, watch, deodorant, mini-tool, batteries (AA & AAA), first aid tin and, most importantly, emergency mars bar. All been needed at some time or other!

Ha, I'm not that bad but I have, amongst spare change and a few other bits, socks in my drawer - forgetting socks used to be a common one...

My drawers (ooooh-errr) contain a pair of jeans, undercrackers, socks, t shirt, biscuits, headache tablets, chocolate, rare old reference books, multitool and puncture repair kit, charger for my light, deodorant, bit of tinsel, some old speedo's (car instruments, not trunks), some of those reflective straps to keep my jeans out of my chain for lunchtime sorties and verious assorted bits of crap.
