Would one of you clever IT types tell them how to fix it for me?

what are the lights you have on your router/ modem?

is your connection through a white coax cable or through a phone line?
Coax into a cable modem thingy with an Apple wifi thingy connected. The Apple unit is happy with it's green light on. The modem has the power light on and the ethernet light on, but the in and out lights are dead as a dodo.
I think it's Virgin that have a problem as I got my Dad to look at their website and it said they had national issues.
Not sure if it's working this morning, didn't have time to check.
Problem with these things is I know enough to get myself into more trouble, but not to get out of it.

ahh yeah sounds like its "their" end.

    Mine?

Too dark for the camera so I wasn't carrying it (pitch black country lanes for the most part going to and from work at the moment)

I do kind of regret that now, as this did happen on a lit stretch and if I had recorded it, I would've reported it.

  • Farkin' wind. Again.

Last winter I was freezing my nads off and trying to avoid snow & ice, this year is windier than cow's @rse.

Had to drop into granny gear (wooly bobble hat, raincoat and shopping trolley  ) this morning along the Clyde as it must've been gusting over 50mph where it gets funnelled along the riverside. Took me longer to get to work and I was knacked.

    Grrrr!

Noticed this on my Tivo when watching TV at 3am. Didn't bother with the PC at that time of morning.

The weather for being too hot when I left work at 2am. Got into wotk with a temperature of 6c and came out to find it nearly double which meant my winter gloves and 2 buffs I had intended to wear were put straight into the pannier.

Ah... I see... my ride into work on Wednesday morning at 6am was only 5degC but it was 11degC coming home at 8pm... I did it in shorts and base layer and SS top and my Gore Phantom jacket... neither too hot nor too cold.. this morning its 9degC and chucking it down... :(

Are we crazy? Cycled in pishing rain this morning and arrived like a drenched rat.

I really really really ought to buy some overshoes, but for some reason I keep putting it off..grrrr

And this is a rant? why? I was warm and toasty and very wet (just bibshorts, ss top and my Gore Phantom - I love my Gore Phantom :)), but it was a nice ride in today... oh yes, I did have my overshoes on :D

Now for my own rant... why do chains always come off at the worst possible moment? Just about to put the power down away from the lights, clip in, and the chain makes a bid for freedom. Cue instant grinding halt, a screech of brakes from behind and a nearly clipless moment only saved by lightening reflexes brought on by sheer self preservation. Managed to manhandle bike to kerb to a chorus of hoots...

Now I have a lovely crossbar sized bruise on my left thigh and a chainwheel teeth tattoo on my right calf :(

  • Had a particularly nasty incident this morning coming around the Wandsworth Round about. I was in my lane heading to the York Road exit, traffic was quite heavy. I dark coloured van came from behind on my left then tried to push me into the middle lane. I managed to hold my position till I got into the bus lane. The van then pulls over in the bus lane in front of me and slams on his brakes. As I stopped to avoid hitting him a cyclist behind could not avoid me and went into the back of me. The van driver then wound down the window and started shouting a load of incomprehensible abuse at me and I noticed he was eating a sandwich, I thought he was going to get out at this point. Once he drove off I headed down York Road. on the CS8, when he saw me pass him he drove into the bus lane behind me and sped up behind me while revving his engine, I honestly thought he was going to ram me. Fortunately the same cyclist who went into the back of me hung back to create some distance between me and the van. I would just like to say thanks to this cyclist and well spotted for getting the company name and first part of the Reg. I spotted him again around Victoria and managed to find a full address and mobile phone number from this and have reported it to the police. I have been commuting into central London pretty much everday for the past two years but have never had anything like this happen before.

That's a worry, if he drove into the bus lane to get you hopefully there will be camera footage and he'll get a ticket for driving in the bus lane if nothing else.
  • Yes, there should be plenty of cameras around there. I hope something gets done because of the full on agression and determination he showed to try and run me off the raod.

Even if the police don't do anything (sadly it is highly likely they will not) do contact the idiots employers and kick up a stink. Glad you are ok.

Is he a builder/decorator/plumber/etc. ? have a look at the trades reference sites like CheckATrade, DuluxSelect, etc... some of those you can leave a 'quality reference' on...

Check to see if he's a member of any professional body. Gas Safe etc and send them a note as well.

Run a screwdriver down the side of it. Or failing that, keep booking him to come out to fictitious addresses.*

*Obviously I don't advocate you actually do either of these things.

You could start arranging for him to go to lots of places to quote for jobs, only to arrive at a spurious address and find a note taped to a locked door telling him that it was the phantom cyclist and his revenge :-D

Seriously though, what an idiot! Glad you're OK and not too traumatised.

It's not actually double the temperature; the centigrade scale starts at approx. -273, so double the temperature would have been a balmy 285 degrees (or thereabouts)

Kind of annoys me when the weather forecasters do this on the BBC (because they're qualified meteorologists and should therefore be a bit more scientific). In your case I'm obviously just being pedantic and nitpicky :-)
