Sounds like a ridiculous amount for a small dent. And if he hit your friend he is partly or possibly wholly to blame. Having a green light (assuming it was) doesn't mean you don't have to look and you still have a duty of care to others. What your friend said at the time is not helpful, nor was leaving the scene (although you know that) but I would have thought it reasonable to claim that it was the situation, the driver's aggresive behaviour, etc.
Grabbing somebody like that sounds very much like assault and if he persists in his demand I would report him for that. In fact, I would be inclined to report the whole incident anyway. Sounds like a nasty piece of work.0 -
Firstly the a**hole BMW driver was/is in the wrong. As the others have said green means go ONLY IF THE WAY AHEAD IS CLEAR!!!
Now, while i am NOT having ago at your friend, she should have listened to the advice given by the police. NEVER ADMIT liability. It is up-to the Police/Insurance/Courts to portion blame. I can fully understand why your friend did what she did, however in these circumstance ALWAY use the FULL power of the Police. Had you friend claimed assault there and then the driver would have been ARRESTED.
You friend should contact a specialized NO WIN NO FEE solicitor straight away and let them deal with it.
I hope this incident has not put her off cycling.0 -
As others have said, it sounds to me like HE collided with HER when he crossed a stop line on a red light, so he was the one at fault. That coupled with the fact that the driver was abusive and violent towards your flatmate means she isn't liable for the cost of the repair.*´¨)

£1400 is probably spot on for replacing the entire bumper, which is what any 'reputable' BMW workshop will do (because I guess they just wont know if the integrity of the bumber has been damaged even if the external damage looks superficial???).
THe other thing that gets me is your friend not wanting to press charges! Thats just plain stupid on her behalf (although I suspect she felt guilty for being a RLJ perhaps?).
Having said that, pitty your friend wasnt a blackbelt in something deadly and ended up whupping his ass!
