Effect of blood doning on training

I went out on a training ride yesterday, the day after blood doning.
Although the ride was enjoyable, my time for the route was a little disappointing. I also noted that it was comparatively easy to maintain higher heart rate levels.
Could the lack of performance and high heart rate be caused by the blood doning?

Blood doning, not doping.
It's when you give blood regularly so others can use it for transfusions, following accidents, operations, etc.0 -

Usually they tell you not to exercise for 24 hours after DONATING blood.
It will certainly have an effect on your performance although I do know people who have raced the day after donating and claim no ill effects. I personally find it knocks me back for a few weeks at least. It will take 6-8 weeks for your body to replace the lost red cells.
This came up a while back so have a look at the previous thread for more opinions:

Hi there.
I was back doing intervals on the running track within 48 hours - no drama. Prob wouldn't risk it with a big race coming up though.

it can take up to six weeks for red blood cells to recover to the same level as before providing the donation.
Degradation in performance can be expected during that period.
Blood donation, while good for the country, is not good cycling performance.0
