Hello
Im new to mountain biking and looking to buy my first FS bike soon, still undecided should i buy Canyon Nerve AM 5.0 or Yt industries Wicked 150. Im really confused about the measurements. Since both of these need to be ordered online and i cant test ride them, i would appreciate some advice on what size should i be looking for.

so how does that compare to your current frame?"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Having not read the thread, can I ask how standover height means anything at all? Surely whatever the height the BB, you want the seat tube to be the right length so that you can achieve maximum pedalling efficiency?0

To some people it is important ie clearance - kinked top tubes and seat masts can add standover height.0

some 'pointers'... please...
Just about settled on a saracen Zen X but none locally so having to play the online guessing game..
I'm not certain whether to go 17" or 19" as potentially I can do the seat rails forward or backward and stem change either way as it currently has a 60/90 7degree stem.
5'9 32" IL and very overweight....
FRAME SIZES S 15" M 17" L 19" XL 21"
ST Seat Tube Length (mm) 381 431.8 482.6 533.4
TT Horizontal Toptube Length (mm) 575 595 615 635
HT Headtube Length (mm) 115 115 125 125
HA Head Angle 68° 68° 68° 68°
SA Seat Angle 72.5° 72.5° 72.5° 73°
CS Chanstay Length (mm) 425 425 425 425
BB BB Drop (mm) 20 20 20 20
WB Wheelbase Length (mm) 1088.2 1109.2 1135.6 1156.6
any pointers as to which and why? to help my decision as realistically I think I would be around 18 from the various 'general' size guides..

measure your inside leg
then take away 10 inches (the average height for the bottom bracket
the take away 3 inches (the clearence your looking fore been your love tackle and the crossbar)
well using this formual im not too far off my frame size, ive got a cube reaction 20" frame, im 5'9" with a 34" inside leg. i have a 16.5 frame on another bike and a 18" frame on another ( not tried this as its the missus bike).
Dose anyone reckon my bike is the wrong size for me?
im guessing from what ive read that the majority would say yes.
To be honest im finding the larger frame better so im at a loss as to all the fuss about people riding small frames, could someone please try to explain rights and wrongs regarding my issue
cheers
scott
I think it depends on how you feel on it. I have had 3 decent mountain bike, a Scott (17.5), a Marin 15.5 and a Kona 17". I am about 5'7 and a half. and inside leg is about 28-29 inches.
The scott was great but was stolen, the replacement Marin felt far too small, but the shop said the 17.5 was too big (and it felt it), so I went with the 15.5. It just never felt right though. Even with a long stem and the seat right back, it didn't feel right, but felt really unbalanced. The seatpost seemed to put me in a ridiculous high position and I always felt like I would go straight over the bars on even a 6 inch drop off.
The Kona feels perfect and the riding position feels great. The seat post sticks out of the frame about 6 inches, which looks correct and is correct for pedalling (doing the heel on the pedal thing with leg extended). The only thing is that I have virtually no clearance when standing over it. The crown jewels just touch the top bar. I have fallen a few times and never hit them yet!
The funny thing was I had no intention of buying the Kona, I was going to buy a Scott, but the guy in the shop said it was a quiet day, and kept bringing bikes out in the car park to try. The Kona was the last one to try and I had said I didn't want a Kona, so would be wasting his time. I knew within the first 30 seconds it was going to be mine.
Hope this may put you at ease.
