at the moment my legs muscles are really tired from the tops of knees to the hip and my energy has just gone, at the end of march i did 47mls on sat 69 on tues and 34 on sat, and ive cycled to work 6 times this month 7 miles each way, i get the feeling that my legs bend to much as well could this be a cause of the aching muscles,

join the club. 305 miles this week. Legs are knackered.
Rest and recover thats the answer. A good stretch and a soak in the bath wont do you any harm either.

If you don't feel up to riding your bike if your muscles ache or you feel tired or whatever then going out for a ride (other than recovery) isn't going to do you much good and indeed could even be harmful. The trouble with maintaining a training diary is that it makes you want to write something (anything) in there to show that you are making progress by doing something. Sometimes less = more.
Following on from two hard rides Wednesday and Thursday on Friday I did some turbo work but had nothing in me for high intensity so just turned my legs over for 30 minutes. Yesterday I did my gym exercises but didn't feel up to riding so didn't; leaving it for today. Right now I still feel jaded so have decided I won't train today either.
If that was you and maybe some others my guess is that you would feel guilty about it and go out for a ride anyway. The fact is that my rest is making me stronger not the other way round. Listen to what your body says and you won't go far wrong.
P.S. I use the stair test in the morning to assess how I feel. When I climb the stairs in my house I could be skipping up them or dragging myrself up them. If I am dragging myself then I can forget doing any high intensity stuff. On race days you need to feel like you want to run up them. Obviously if you live in a ground floor flat then you can't do this.0 -

Good article. I hadn't thought of using Coke as a post ride recovery drink but I'll give it a go.0 -
I've had a bad case of heavy legs over the last week, culminating in getting dropped on hills after 50 miles on Sunday. In my case it was too many hard days and not enough easy. I've eased up, it doesn't feel right but I'm sure it's the right thing to do. The stair test is excellent, Mike is right, if you don't feel like springing up them or you get 'the burn' do a recovery spin. I'm trying really hard to actually do this from now on!0
