Just been out for a ride with a friend who wants to do the Norwich100 but hasn't done much training other than a 7 mile commute each day. He had done a 30 mile ride last weekend and said he was done in at the end. Now I am a bit more realistic and have entered the 50 mile event and have been training regulary for 6 months. I have advised him to enter the 50 and I think he is relenting, now I have to think of a training regeme for him to get his speed up for the event, what do you all think he should be doing. I don't think he will have a lot of free time for longer rides so it may have to be incorporated into his commute.
Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

You need March, April & May issues of Cycle Plus magazine. They are running a three month training schedule. The people who turn their swords into ploughshares, generally end up working for the people who kept their swords!0

Yes, many thanks for that, I have been following the program myself(beginners) and it has been paying dividends. My friend however can't commit much time to his training so I was looking for ideas. I suggested him using his commute as an opportunity to interval train to get used to changes in pace over the ride and to get one longer ride in per week, but I am not sure if this would be right :?Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Hi Markos
His commute would be ideal to improve fitness, if he can lengthen the duration on say Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday to be 60 mins each way with Monday and Friday as easier shorter rides he would say big improvements in about 4 weeks.
Interevals are great but they can put riders off training after a while
Hope this helps0 -
