Just didn't like the Nikon. I'm sure there's naff all difference between them anyway! I mean I love Campag but never had any probs with Shimano.
Anyway I will be the proud owner of an EOS 450D tomorrow. Plumped for the 50mm f/1.8 and the 18-55 kit to get started with.
Had a play with the 17-40mm f/4L as well and I think that'll be the next purchase assuming my clients keep doing right by me...
Thanks all for the advice, I'm very excited, just got to remember everything I learnt 10 years ago now...- 2023 Vielo V+1

Actually one more query - Clearly now there is a whole world of image processing to be entered. Will photoshop elements be a good starting point (I want to try shooting in Raw). I have GIMP already though.

PS Elements is decent. Raw is great as it lets you play with the white balance much easier afterwards.
Gone are the days of worrying what king of filter you need under which kind of lightbulb.0 -
jashburnham wrote:Thanks Jamey, I think I'll go down the route. I always used to enjoy landscape/architectural photography so the 17-40mm f/4L could be ideal (have to keep doing well at work!). Problem is I enjoy sports photography as well and those fast lenses look damn pricey.
Someone touched on good lenses holding value, I could do with a fast 200mm or 300mm lense

Canon FD-L 24mm f1.4

The 300 could be as old as late 70s, though the 24mm is one of the later FD mount lenses.
I've stuck with pushing Sensia or Provia 400 to 800 but Fuji no longer provide uprating services. (Provia 400X with a processing voucher is cheaper than Sensia Process Paid)
Which I need next weekend and fujilab website is down.... boogah.Do Nellyphants count?

Remember that expensive lenses like 400 F2.8 etc can be hired. Even pros hire them rather than shell out for something they dont use every week. The 200 F2.8 Canon is a great lens and best kept secret the 135 F2 is even better. Sharpest canon lens ever and I have had a few....IMHO for the money the 70 - 200 F2.8 are heavy expensive , not as sharp as the prime lenses and only worth the money if your a news/sport snapper0

I use Photoshop CS2 and RawShooter Essentials (now discontinued) to process my shots but it's up to you.
I do think that Photoshop proper is worth having, but not at full retail price, if you catch my drift0 -
I have a few lenses and have to say that the one I use the most are my 17-40 f/4L and my 24-105 f/4L. I also have the 300mm f/4L to give me decent coverage throughout the range.
I have a couple of fast primes but they really only get used indoors.0
