  • Arctic monkeys - what a load of f***ing shite.

Following on from that anything that has been on the front cover of NME is guaranteed to be utter crap.

I reckon you could wipe out a large proportion of crap music by excluding any band name starting with "The..". Also any musical style that seems to require its followers to use large amounts of hair products or overly tight trousers.

Dull, boring, derivative, re-hashed, shite. Oasis have a lot to answer for - we're still feeling their legacy 13 years on, curse their black hearts.

Don't get me started on lyrics.....

Thin Lizzy - "Tonight there will be a Jail Break, somewhere in the town......"

That will be at THE JAIL then.... How many drugs do you have to take, over what period of time before you can't work that out....

Spandau Ballet - "I bought a ticket to the world, but now i've come back again.."

WTF is that all about... One ticket to the world please..... w4nkers.....

    :lol::lol::lol:

Have you been reading the letters page in Viz by any chance?

  • PDSPT - Bruce Springsteen is a genius, your wife has good taste.

definately not geniuses include the following:

    WestZone - lift music
ColdPatrol - musical cardboard and soooo sincere and worthy
    Suede - wailing morons
The killers - up there own arse (lead singer anyway)
Robbie Williams talent free as martin o'neil succintly put it when they were both on MOTD
Moron 5 - singing in a falsetto doesn't hide your crap voice
    U2 - since Zooropa
James Blunt - comes accross as a funny guy but the records are just painful (not in a meaningful artistic sense either - just plain agony to listen to)

and basically anything bland and derivative

Fortunately there's plenty of good stuff out there to make up for it :D

Not guilty... Although I haven't read Viz in years and am going to go and get a copy now you remind me....

I have to admit, the Thin Lizzy rant came from my former Brother In Law. He spotted it originally and it used to really pain him....

THE Wonderstuff - "Imagine his surprise, when he opened his eyes, and I ran the lawn mower over his thighs...."

Cheers then... Glad the Student life didn't affect them! Toss...

See also Ed Byrne's dissection of Alanis Morrisette's 'Ironic' in which he concludes that the only thing 'Ironic' about it is that she clearly doesn't know what irony is.

"There's nothing ironic about being stuck in a traffic jam when you're late for something. Unless you're a town planner. If you were a town planner and you were on your way to a seminar of town planners at which you were giving a talk on how you solved the problem of traffic congestion in your area, couldn't get to it because you were stuck in a traffic jam, that'd be well ironic."

"Rain on your wedding day is ironic only if marrying a weatherman and he set the date."
"A no-smoking sign on your cigarette break, that's inconsiderate office management. A no-smoking sign in a cigarette factory - irony."

"Ten thousand spoons? How big is your sink, Alanis? What do you need this knife for - to stab the bloke who keeps leaving spoons all over your house?"

Anything ol' Wossy plays at the end of his show, especially last night - utter drivel!

    But then ...

I like much of Queen's stuff and I like Nickelbacks rockstar song.

  • I don't know the name of the song or who sings it but I heard it in a computer game shop yesterday. Its sung by a London girl and one of the lyrics goes something like:

'I don't like your face it makes me want to puke. Look I've got it all over my new trainers. I only bought them yesterday'.

Then I found a computer game called Hooligans - Storm Over Europe. The screen shots showed a football pitch covered in dismembered bodies. Nice.

you lot should listen to some of the stuff I like  I've just came back from http://www.roadburn.com awesome stuff

Nickleback are a substandard 'grunge' band and have always been utter cackwizard so it's hardly a surprise is it?

I tend to avoid the radio and music channels so I don't get to hear really bad pop music to often.

My band covers a Nickleback tune and I never have liked it. I'm with you on the radio thing. I listen to the radio about 10% of the time, and it's NPR/RPI news or jazz. Nothing else. (Classical orch at 3am on the way home from a gig.) 'Never have liked lyrics, much. Edwin McCain is cool.

Oooh, what were Current 93 like live? I used to really be into them a good few years ago, during my Nurse With Wound / Coil / Legendary Pinks Dots phase.

I think David Tibet was in The Wire magazine recently doing an invisible jukebox.

Popette - thats a classic. But make the most of the disney - as they get bigger the music gets worse!!!
  • Actually i'm going to add The Jean Genie by Bowie (after watching Life On Mars? for the first time and being reminded). A completely bland song compared to the rest of the Aladdin Sane album.

I also can't stand Hey Jude.

I think he did a london show as well, OM were supposed to be playing I was absolutely gutted they canceled anyway

He did a sort of poetry style of vocals to a varying range of beautiful soundscape style (quieter pelican, red sparrowes kinda thing) some of which worked really well and some was ok. It was impressive to see him orchestrate the band and guide them in what he wanted

As well as seconding almost all the above, can I add anything by Beyonce and Rihanna to the hate list.
Songs by them make me want to hurt people.
