Well I know that, but they make a big deal of the race having 31hills and how hard the course is, yet the peloton is still 100 riders deep as they go up the 30th. It would've been nice to see someone try to break the race up a bit earlier (Johan Vansummeren doesn't count). Maybe it was just a boring edition and we've been spoiled by some of the great attacking races we've already seen so far this year.
I think the reason the race is considered hard is as much to do with the constant twists and turns, the narrow roads and the street furniture as it is to do with the hills. The hills actually don't look too bad bar a couple of them towards the end. What you do get from the tv coverage is a feeling for the narrow lanes, the street furniture and the sharp bends. It looks nuts!

That's true. Some of the descents near the finish were a little sketchy to say the least. I guess that's part of the reason why there aren't many pro races in the Netherlands? Road furniture everywhere.

There must be other reasons though. Absolutely enormous crowds for the Amstel Gold... the longest running pro team in the sport is Dutch... some great Dutch cyclists over the years, yet there are what, half a dozen Dutch races all year? Weird.
