Yet again Eurosport coverage is cut because of motorcycling - wish I liked motor sport it's always on. Streaming was rubbish kept freezing, anyone else have the same problems? Watching the replay now - edited well - I doubt it.

Thank god for Cycling.tv, worked faultless throughout today, and Eurosport are just starting now just as it finished on cycling.tv0

its really a disgrace to say the least - annoyed at present - watching the highlights doesnt really cut it
time to make a curry, have afew pints and sneer at the mother in law
and it was snowing - no bike for me today!

Didn't have any probs with the Eurosport streaming myself (at home on an average connection).
Good race.Jeff Jones

i got a better stream off the French Eurosport...with a seperate English audio stream..it seemed to freeze less than British Eurosport, which was total cr*p.
very disappointing.. I am bit worried about P-R next weekend..0 -

Good race.
No problems with the stream - but the problem is the TV coverage - some of us pay for Eurosport through Sky so we expect to get what they said they were covering - not extended coverage of supergaybikes or whatever.0 -
Really annoyed with the pi55 poor TV coverage today.
The first scheduled programme (13:10 - 14:10) was replaced by supersports motorcycling, and then the second scheduled programme (15:30 - 16:00) started late and finished early. So all in a whopping 22 minutes of the Tour of Flanders.
It all brings back bad memories of last year's spring classics coverage. Very poor. :x0 -

Know how you feel, even used up brownie points not painting my youngest room to watch0 -
Quite a lot of unhappy viewers on the eurosport yahoo messageboard. Hopefully one of the suits in eurosport realise how many peoples' days they've just messed around.0
-
Pathetic isn't it - we sit there watching post race analysis of motorcycling and then a string of adverts - when cycling finishes they cut the coverage just as soon as the bunch crosses the line don't they. If there was an alternative I'd pay for it. Thankfully I didn't bother staying in for the first programme.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
Great coverage on (free) Eurosport International - live all the way through. What a race.
If you get involved with Sky and Murdoch then you get what you deserve.0 -
Its a bloody SHAMBLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!    I am so annoyed, i put in a similar post in the pro section. AAAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! :evil:0

The usual from Brtitish Eurosh**e, "live" from 3.30 and the race finished at 3.28.
Even they could have shown the final stages from the Mur, but no a nice edited final
5km. Nothing changes.

my experience of the live streaming today was awful. Having to refresh every 2 mins and then struggling to watch for more than 30 secs. Picture break up everytime they hit a muur. AWFUL!!
The shocking thing is they always change the schedule at will, even though times are stated on schedules. They've shown this legendary race for years, but decide to instead show the first race of superbikes. WHY wouldn't they show highlights of that???
Really poor show!!!!0 -
I watched it on the streamed video from the Eurosport website which worked quite well.
The TV coverage on British Eurosport was absolutely abysmal. As others have said it was ridiculously short and didn't really cover much of the racing at all.
It's not looking good for Paris - Roubaix next week. :?0 -
I notice there are highlights tonite (23.15 - 00.15).Hope that helps.0
-
The stream worked ok, but it's not the same as watching the race on a wide screen TV. Same old story. Be prepared for the same next week 'live' coverage from 3:30 for Paris Roubaix.... at best last 15km, because of the 125cc motorcycling. Then for Amstel Gold we will get a highlights program (so expect the last 20km or so)....... Gent Wevelgem on Wednesday looks ok though from 1:30 Live i think - Cycling will always make way for the motor sport on Sundays it seems.0

You can bet your ass on that!!! the queen of the classics is sure to be treated like a pauper...AGAIN!!!! I mean, as thrilling as watching Motorbikes can be, it was superbikes, not even Moto GP, AND it was just one round, hardly absolutely crucial. We only get a few select races like this per year, and they **** it up nearly everytime! :x They are a shambles, there is no other word for it.
KIng Kelly should 'do one' in protest and leave the channel, i wonder if he knows he is talking for 4 to 6 hours, when nobody hardly is listening? I think its bloody disrespectful to the great man. AAARRRRGGGHHH i can feel my blood boiling again :evil:0 -
I don't mind making way for motorcycling - I'm sure we all understand the commercial realities - but making way for volleyball !! And if they know motorcycling is on why advertise cycling - this morning they were still showing about 4 hours of Flanders on their web schedule - and why not put together a decent highlights package for the evening? I reckon most people here would settle for a decent 60-90 minutes of edited racing shown 10pm or something like that instead of the last 15km of a race totally out of context.

That's exactly it, they have Eurosport 1 ok fine keep the motorcycling on, but what is wrong in putting something more popular than volleyball, handball or lacrosse on Eurosport 2.
There is an hour of highlights on tonight, followed by 30 mins of local racing.
I think Gent - Wevelgem coverage will be better, on Wednesday, not as many other live sports to compete with, shame most of us will be at work.0 -
I agree with all the posts before, according to my Sky planner we are going to have only 30mins of "live" Paris Roubaix next week. Its the same for the Premier calendar series as well. It is very rarely shown when its supposed to be.
I tend to record the highlights of the continental race programmes later in the evening.
Heres to the Giro!!0 -
Very poor from Eurosport. I planned to watch on Cycling.tv as the ES coverage was going to be sporadic at best, and I have to say I was very impressed, with the last 140kms live. The connection was also the best it's been. I know they've been deservedly knocked for their performance in the past, but they were spot-on today.0

I note from your post above that you watched Flanders on International Eurosport - do you use an old analogue set up? Mine has packed up and I can't find spares to fix it. I have looked into a digital Freesat box and dish, but am told that I wouldn't be able to tune in to the Englsh commentary, just the German. If you do use digital, and have it tuned in to the English commentary (or if anyone else out there does), I would love to know how to do it, as I suspect a growing army of cyclists would.0

Unfortunately cycling.tv coverage of Paris Roubaix seems to be US only by the looks of it.0

Good race.
I think I was lucky to get the stream working, but all of you who paid to watch it on TV have my sympathies.Jeff Jones

So how the heck does a UK resident pick up International Eurosport? Moving to Germany, while attractive, isn't likely to be happening any time soon.....you are talking to a tv gadget phobic here.0

What sort of events do you useually watch?Remember that you are an Englishman and thus have won first prize in the lottery of life.0 -
I know that motorcycling draws more advertising revenue, but I find myself wondering how it works when the programme basically overruns by an hour and replaces another as seemed to happen on Eurosport yesterday. Do they have stand by customers ready to drop an advert into elongated superbike coverage? If so, what happens to the companies who have (presumably) paid up front to advertise their stuff during the cycling coverage that got dropped?
Personally I'm resigned to this type of problem, and appreciate that other sport coverage sometimes get's reduced when a cycle race finishes late. So there's a bit of swings and roundabouts. What I don't get is why they cut into coverage of other sports by letting the pundits babble on for a quarter of an hour after that overrunning race has finished, that does seem a bit unfair to me.Take care,
Steve.0 -
It wouldn't be spring without the cobbled classics and a "Eurosport's crap" rant.
This is why ideas like cycling.tv will work so well in the future. Not only do they get committed fans to pay for a subscription or pay-per-view, but they have a key niche audience ready and waiting for targeted advertising.0 -
I just posted info on International Eurosport reception in this thread.
andyp reckons that the analogue satellite (Astra) should be broadcasting for at least another couple of years.0
