Recovering from a knee operation (ACL)

6 weeks ago I had my anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rebuilt after a skiing accident. I am a regular road and MTB cyclist, but had had a very quiet winter ignoring training!
My physio ok'd first gentle turbo'ing and now he is happy for me to start getting out and about again. I'm desperate to get back to full fitness, but know that really will be only after c.3 months.
In the meantime I find as long as the cadence is high i can get round Richmond Park on the MTB (I've had to ignore the road bike as it doesn't have a triple or a compact!) and so am gently building that up.
It is frustrating as hell - any tips out there how to speed up the recovery? Any thoughts about when it might be safe to book a couple of sportives? Anybody recommend a knee-friendly compact ratio (?50/34 low enough with 12/25?) to avoid having to buy a triple? Cheers

Specialized Allez double at £499 will match the 50/34 ratio. not sure about the rear.
