Mine's heavy - 11.75 - 12 kg - I've upgraded many bits - the frame & forks are next - thinking of the Ribble Winter frame with Alpina forks. Bit of a job, but have enjoyed the upgrade process, and learnt a bit on the way.

  • 7.45kg (57cm) not bad for a steel framed bike (Waterford R33) i reckon

  • Hi there.

It'd be more interesting if you quoted bike+rider weight...

    Cheers, Andy

    Wow, that's light for steel!

My lightest is a 531 Butted Carlton all (old) ali parts, 700x20s, fixed, no dangly bits.... and still 22 lbs!

I expect the similarly framed 10 speeder is up about the 30 lbs mark.

Never understand why my bikes always weigh so much more than everyone elses....

You need to stand off the bathroom scales with both feet when you weight the bike. Took me ages to figure that one out :)

    We have a winner!

Now, we just need to factor in watts at threshold, do some maths and we'll see who's the daddy!

    I have a standard 57cm LeMond Zurich.

Weighed it with pedals, computer, HRM, pump, bottle cages the lot at 8.7kg (not saddle bag)

That was more than what I was expecting .... :?

They never seem to quote weight in the bike specs on websites.

    Hi there.

    Try this link:

    http://weightweenies.starbike.com/listings.php

    Cheers, Andy

I saw that and that just lists components not whole bikes.

My frame is a 2007 Carbon frame but on that site the only listing is the 2003 metal one ...

According to the spreadsheet (based on real weights) it will be 6.7kg when finished, including pedals, bottle cages and computer. Fairly sure this is pretty accurate, as weighing it in it's current state came out almost spot on predicted (~6.9kg at the moment, still waiting for the correct front wheel and cages).

How are you guys weighing the bike? Do you just stand on the scales holding the bike and then subtract your own weight?

My problem is I have no bathroom scales!

I've got a digital hanging fishing scale. Far more accurate than the bathroom scales method.
  • i wieghed all the parts of my build seperately and then as they got put together so like tyres, rims, tubes, hubs, spokes and then as a full wheel ect and then did the bike as a whole.

8.4kg for me, which is a lot lighter than my old bike, which weighed in at 11.3kg. I really notice the difference.

Why do the manufactures not list the weight?

This must be of interest to buyers ...

"Why do the manufactures not list the weight?"

I suspect because 1. vary from size to size 2. most manufacturers reserve the right to vary the specification(s) and 3. the ones you and I buy are not the same as those reviewed with words "weight as tested".

I did come across/own a Fuji XC SL that DID weigh what it said! At the time it was reckoned to be lightest out-of-the-crate hardtail at a shade over 24 lbs. Achieved by little (sic) things such as inner tubes that once holed were too thin to patch! and even cut down rubber gaiters on the V-noodles. The Giant XTC SE1 I had was nearly a pound over its claimed weight of 24.5.

The frame itself is a whisker over 1.4kg and i've kept the weight down with a chorus gruppo (carbon cranks) and very light Rolf Elan Aero wheels.

My bike was weighed on scales at the LBS after they finished putting together.

I see and very nice frame indeed! But TBH at say a grand and a half with duty, VAT and shipping then so it should be! About the going rate of +500 quid =s -1 lb in weight?
