Just returned from a 65 miler in prep for end to end in summer (10 days) after about 50 right foot felt as if someone was shoving hot daggers into the area between the ball and toes..loosened shoe only slightly better..as soon as i'm off it's ok just a bit tingly. Other foot absolutely fine. Anyone had anything similar? or great solutions...please

Not so much of an answer but an "I get the same".
But only when I'm skiing, and like you, the only way to releive it is by taking off the boots which is sometimes a pain.
I had comformable moulded insteps fitted to my boots which give better arch support to the foot, maybe you could try those, but at £30-£40 a pair they are quite expensive. That said, if they solve the problem its cash well spent.Advocate of disc brakes.0 -

Sounds like a problem of nerves being trapped in foot - shoes too tight? The problem has a long latin name which I can't remember but has to do with the nerves between the large toe joints getting trapped and inflamed. If you cycle often the inflammation doesn't have time to go down either so it can flare up for almost nothing. Google foot or toe pain or get to a physio?
Good footbed might help, as might change of shoe - but whilst inflammation is there life will be tricky I suspect.0 -
I get this and have no idea why as my shoes are not tight at all. If I run my fingers over a certain part of the sole of my foot I do get a tingly sensation. I tried moving my cleats around and it slightly helped the situation but didnt solve it.There is never redemption, any fool can regret yesterday...

The foot pain topic turns up occasionally on the cyclingnews fitness Q&A. Here are a few:

They may, or may not, be helpful. (I've not had to resort to cleat wedges myself)0 -
Try stiffer soles on your shoes. It can happen when the sole flexes, and your foot wraps around the pedal slightly. You never notice it until you're doing a long ride, but I'd bet that's what it is.0
