Dura-Ace electronic

good riders shift the bike onto the big ring before they crest a hill, rather than waiting til they get over the top.
Fair point that, was the reason I always ran a wide block when racing, so that I could stay on the big ring by using 53x23, as opposed to wasting time chainging down and up again on the chainset.
However, aren't their some chain tension, load issues with shifting prior to the crest, although maybe the speed of an electronic change could reduce them?
At least that is one good reason if it works, and certainly would be useful for UK, Belgium type races, with short, sharp climbs in.
Any more plus points from anyone?0 -
CW have the latest update on Shimano's new electronic system this week. Shimano claim that it will be lighter than the current mechanical system, a fully charged battery will last for half a Tour de France, the rear mech indexing will be self adjusting and even able to re-set itself after a crash. The speed and power of the front change will be matched to the power and rpm going through the cranks during the shift.
Looks interesting, better get the wallets out and find somewhere to hide those credit card bills from the missus!0 -

Ah yes, now comes the real problem. Actually buying one without having to take out a loan or a second mortgage on your house. Not to mention divorce procedings once your wife gets wind of it all. It will be the usual nagging "what the hell is wrong with the one you have now?". I guess I can see myself going electronic in a couple of years, I mean,
this is life, have fun, get what you want or at least what you can afford. Tell the wife
that all this keeps you out of the bars. You probably won't be able to afford
the beers after you buy anyway.

Hi there.
The funny thing is that the cyclingnews tech april fools is almost indistinguishable from the real marketing - have a look at FSA's new Carbon Structural Integration technology:

It must be very easy to get confused, especially at your age ;-)
