should I see a physio for my sore knee?

I have soreness in the tendon that goes from top of my right shin to under my kneecap, this originated during a mad stomp up one of my local hills a couple of years ago. It comes and goes depending on how much I push it, it goes away with prolonged rest and less furious cycling.

Am I likely to benefit from a visit to a sports physio, or should I just carry on trying not to over do it?

If so, any recommendations in NW England?

Thanks

If it bothers you - physio - preferably a sport oriented one.

is the pain comimg from the outside of your knee if its is then its your itb band(illio tibia band)this is a common complaint with cyclists who take up running or walking as cycling shortens this tendon,if you google ITB stretches this should help

Sounds like you`ve got scaring/scar tissue under the tendon. Do/did you kneel a lot? Ultrasound may sort it. See your doc first `cause it may be cheaper.
The Wife complained for months about the empty pot of bike oil on the hall stand; so I replaced it with a full one.

A trip to the Physio should be on the agenda to disclose what is causing the pain....letting Mother Nature take her course is probably not the smartest choice if the pain is more than what an athlete generally encounters......
Until you get the appointment, here are some sites for your review:

    Looks like Patella Tendonitis

I'll book a sports physio when I get back from skiing.

Totally agree w/UT_OCH_CYKLA... I don't see how a ski trip will do the knee(s) any good. Postponing the ski venture may be one of the smartest choices you'll ever make!

  • the above two comments seem to be a bit of a knee jerk reaction rather than informed opinion. I'm just back none the worse from 4 days great skiing (try it sometime)

Of course lateral knee forces from agressive or careless skiing can aggrevate or cause cruciate ligament injuries, and mis timed hitting of bumps etc could aggrevate cartiallige damage

The tendon soreness I described above seems to be very cycling specific, ie transmitting power from my thigh muscle to shin when honking hard up hills or sprinting, and has not been agrevated much by my skiing break

    Glad it worked out ok.
    BUT
what I wrote was my informed opinion. My son had a lot of trouble with his knees and went skiing despite physios suggestion he didn't.After one weeks wild skiing is knee problems were then so bad he could barely walk. It took months of rehab, insert soles and discomfort before he was 'right' again. And sadly he no longer wants to cycle....
so pardon theh pun... no kneejerk reaction on my part
