Reddraggon do you have one of these? the wife is continuously nagging at me to get a helmet and I have been thinking about the Cateye. There said to be very well ventilated. Is that the case?0 -

They are very well ventilated, 39 vents I think they have. I've only worn it 3 times, but did a lot of climbing and my head stayed cool and didn't get too sweaty - so thumbs up for the Whisper.0 -

I currently use a Giro Monza. Might treat myself to a Specialized 2D once I've decided on the colourways of the new bike.0

It's the Catlike Whisper.
Don't worry, no one will have noticed0 -
I got a Giro Ionos for an xmas pressie - it got 10/10 in Cycling Weekly. It has a carbon composite sub-frame between the foam layers, presumably to restore strength sacrificed to venting. It is super cool and light, and unnoticeable in use, but it also comes with an accessory inner "sleeve" to deal with colder days, which reduces wind chill effectively. If I was buying I would have probably chosen a Spesh 2D as (according to my reply from Spesh UK) their helmets meet the superior Snell standards, though the helmets don't carry this logo.
Anyway, I am pretty pleased with the Ionos for fit, comfort and cooling. Available just under budget at £99.99 from Cyclesports UK and some other vendors.0 -
i too have recently upgraded from a giro monza to a giro ionos and apart from looking very smart it is very well ventilated and very comfy .pm0

Just recieved my Ionos from Activesportskit.com for £97.99 incl VAT and free cariage.
And thanks alfablue I was wondering what the funny, half mesh lining was for, I thought it was a sweat band/bug catcher! No mention of it in the instructions,0 -

Yes, I sort of guessed its use, and initially I just fitted it loose in the helmet. Then I realised I should probably remove the small pads inside the helmet and it now sticks to the velcro neatly and is "as one". I have been using it this way since xmas, the weather is still a bit chilly for someone who doesn't wear any hair!!! It is a testament to how cool the helmet is that they supply this.0 -
How about the Bell Sweep R, available for about £70 and good enough for CSC.

Depends on what fits.
I need a new helmet after denting my old Met one.
Really liked the look of the Giro Ionos, Bell Sweep R and Spesh 2D but they just didn't fit my head when I tried them on. They feel like I'm wearing an upturned, uncushioned shopping basket.
Guess it will have to be another Met. Pity the Stradivarius is so expensive.0 -

My Kompact is a pretty cool lid. I bought mine blind but its probably a good idea to try on the options. Whispers are on sale on Prendas too.0 -

helmets are VAT free
as a team this year we plumped with CATLIKE ( kompact pro )
excellent quality & value ....0 -
As always - if you are serious about head protection - providing the fit is OK go for Snell certified, which unfortunately in the UK really means Specialized. He that buys land buys many stones.
He that buys flesh buys many bones.
He that buys eggs buys many shells,
But he that buys good beer buys nothing else.

better still a motorcycle helmet or just stay in & ride the Turbo...
much safer ..0 -
Got an Ionos for Christmas ... can't fault it and it's so well vented I've had to wear a scull cap under it so far
Roll on summer - hehe
It's great to be .....0 -
I bought a Spesh S-Works 2D. Looks great, although carries the sponsorship logos of a pregnancy tester kit
It's very light and very well ventilated.
That said, I prefer the look of the Catlike helmets. I was just put off by not being able to try them on and see how they looked on me...0 -
Bell Sweep!
And they've just come down in price0 -
i have a spesh 2d that they gave me for free!
it's my first helmet being previously a non-believer. I have worn it on the last few rides and it is very very comfy - basically because it is so damned light! - you forget it is there very quickly. I also notice that the 2D - in comaprison to some of the cheaper ones I looked at last year (when i did consider that I should try wearing a helmet) it has much softer straps and generally uses better qualiy materials - carbon fibre as a visible shell re-enforcement for example.0 -
On sale in the US..

Specialized Propero - cheaper than the 2D.
Had mine for about 2 weeks (first ever helmet) & it feels fine.0 -

I'm getting an Atmos off the wife for my birthday. I tried a few others on but this one felt light and airy. It also fitted comfortably on my outlandishly sized bonce somehow...0 -
Giro Atmos or Bell Sweep R for around £70. I have the atmos and its a snugger fit than the Spesh 2D as I thought it rather bulky and sat on my head way to high. My last helmet for 5 years was a Spesh so its probably down to what you find fits best.Brian B.0
