Hi,
I know 6.7 is said to be the number of watts per kilogram you must be able to sustain aeroically to win the TdF, but I was wondering if an equivalent for women has been found. Or indeed, as I don't see myself as a realistic contender for the Grande Boucle Feminine, what is a reasonable wattage for a female rider to aim for?

Can you find times for the leading women riders to go up Alpe d'Huez? You could use the analytic cycling webiste to work out their wattage, if you know their weight.
I would have thought elite women would get up in about 45 min maybe? However I guess we may also consider the possibility that there may be much less, even zero, doping in women's pro cycling (due to the financial rewards being nowhere near as great), and not worry too much if they are slower than expected vs the top male grand tour riders...Le Blaireau (1)0 -
Couple of links with some info. Not sure how accurate/up to date it is though

http://www.cyclingpeakssoftware.com/pow ... rofile.asp has links to Excel sheets with w/kg for various durations, which will give you an idea of where you are in relation to the world's best. Dr Coggan and co put the figure functional threshold power for top men at 6.4 and top women at 5.69 w/kg. Maybe it's a bit higher for grand tour winners.Jeff Jones

Meh, I lost a bit of weight and mine improved slightly after dropping about 2 pounds then got much worse. It's a delicate balance!0
