Am I not right in thinking that they developed the combined brake and gear levers that we all enjoy these days?

This is a dull debate and not even in the right section. Go start it in Knowhow if you really must.

  • Shimano, Campagnolo and Sram are all equally as bad as each other. None of it is actually any good.

    If you want quality.....

    Sturmey Archer 3 Speed.
    English made and Mint....

    3 Speeds........It's the FUTURE!

For the record.... I ride Shimano!

I love Shimano. Two years ago I swapped from Campag and it was the right choice.

Didn't realise that Cake Stop had a limit of what could be discussed on it. I thought it was an open forum

Well I dunno. Its supposed to be about non bike related stuff but there's alot of cycling stuff here at the moment....hence my Edna thread!

Shimano has always outlasted Campag for me, still using my 1980 Dura Ace crankset

  • Am I allowed to have, and like, both?

I have late 80's Dura Ace on my retro TT bike, and late 90's Campag on my modern-ish bike.

if shimano is cheaper and it does the same job then ill stick with them

I don't even know what I've got on my bike! :D

It's a specialized allez double ring, would anyone mind telling me?

I like it but if it's the wrong fashion choice I can always change my mind!

Shimano isn't cheaper though, I got all the pretty carbon centaur stuff for £380, same price as plain old 6600 Ultregra.

No washing lines, nice looking, light and cheaper than Ultegra SL. Campag is the winner in my books.

But when you drive the Alfa, there is no comparison in how it makes you feel. I am assuming people feel the same way about Campag.

I used to have an Alfa GTV, so I understand fully your dilemma...

  • If I was going to buy an Italian bike i'd use campag, but apart from that aslong as the groupo makes my wheels go round i'm perfectly happy.

  • I don't think that many people do, i see lots of mountain bikes with a mix of both Sram and Shimano.
I know more people who hate Sram than hate Shimano
