Absolutley gutted last week.... Being a 'fair weather' cyclist, I put the bike away last october and continued to keep my fitness by running 4/5 times a week building my mileage up to 10mile runs regularly. Thinking my fitness was far better than October I went out last week for the 1st time this year on my road bike. What a nightmare, I was absolulutly knackered after 15 miles, could not beleive it (I built up to 50miles last year). Thigh muscle ached, back killed me, looks like I have to start all over again, Turbo next winter I think....

... Anyone else done the same????
Don\'t wait for your ship to come in... Swim out to it.

  • if you've been cardio vascular active teh cycling legs will come back fairly quickly - just take it easy teh first few times, and build distance progessively.

Yes it's quicker to get it back than it is to start from scratch - but why put the bike away for Winter - yes there are some miserable grey days in Winter and if you aren't training for anything specific there's no need to ride when it's like that - but there are also some bright crisp Winter days that are some of the best days for getting out on the bike all year.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

Er... please tell me you're joking! You didn't really expect to be riding well without actually riding your bike for 4 months did you?...Anyway what's the big problem. By you're own admission you're a fair-weather cyclist, the weather not that fair at the moment and neither is your cycling-fitness. Just keep riding regularly and you'll start to get fitter :D
