Help - Lower Back Problem.

What the hell have I done to my back and to lesser extend knee?
I did the SWRC mini-sportive on Sunday (65m). During the ride, near the end my left knee started to ache (on the inside, just at the tip of the quad muscle but also a bit lower too) which turned to shooting pain when i got out of the saddle. So i stayed seated and kept spinning a high gear and it was just about managable.
After the ride - and after a 90min car journey home - my knee still ached but much worse was my lower back. It was and still is absolute agony when i get out of my seat and move about. When i'm still it's ok but it seems to stiffen up when i sit down making me look like a 90-year whn i get up. This wasn't helped by another three hour car journey an hour or so later and since then being stuck at my desk in the office.
What's strange is that my bike set up was the same as usual (i even got the tape meaure out to check), I don't normally get any knee problems (natural high cadence) and my back isn't ever this bad.
I'm wondering what's caused it - and how can i stop it happening again. A possible explaination a pal suggested is that my hamstrings tightened up, which strained my knee and back. My hamstrings are very tight at the moment, cyclists naturally have short hamstrings, they felt tight on my previous longer ride and i regret to say I neglected to stretch them properly beforehand this time. Could this be it?
I know internet diagnosis isn't ideal but i'd appreciate any thoughts and how i can prevent it in the future.

Sounds like the hamstring theory could be the one. My own feeling is that weak/tired legs tend to load the lower back more than would normally. if its not getting better with gentle exercise, self massage etc go to a physio - they'll check its nothing more serious and then give you some stretching and strength building stuff to do. Core strength is valuable - you need a good base to build training on and a strong core to build strong legs on.
Hope it sbetter soon.0 -
