Out of the boat and onto the bike

Hi,
I'm after a bit of advice on sorting out a basic training prog. I've done a fair bit of rowing in the past, pretty seriously at Uni but has slipped since I joined the real world! I've been keeping fit by follwing a "detuned" uni rowing training prog and getting in plenty of mountain biking plus riding to work.
Recently I've decided to get into road biking as due to work commitments I don't think I'll ever be able to row competatively again (doesn't go down well with the other 8 if you're half an hour late for a training session!) and I see road cycling as another power/endurance sport which basically involves lots of pain and suffering .
The thing is my training is mostly rowing focused, I'm well used to using a heart rate monitor for training and have a good understanding of training bands etc but I don't feel that it's optimal for road cycling - most rowing races are over a distance of 2K where you go anaerobic very quickly, the longer ones are usually only 5K.
Could anyone point me in the direction of a decent prog for road racing? Nothing too specific for now, just one for generally getting "bike fit" rather than "boat fit".
Thanks for any help.
Jon
