The girls in lycra shorts are going away :cry::cry::cry::cry:

I would like to say a big thanks to Overmars and gumball3000 for their outstanding contribution.

At least I now have one hell of a screensaver

  • I'm just sorry if any of the ladies whose pictures were included were offended. I'm sure no-one intended that, I know I certainly didn't see it that way.

Once again sorry ladies for any offence caused.

Plenty of places on the interweb where a red-blooded male can get his ya-yas, though I was a fan of the thread oh yes. S'pose I'll just have to go out and get a life now dammit.

I quite enjoyed that thread as well :) There were some really good pictures on there which, as a lady cyclist, I found quite inspirational. I don't mean the ones where all the t and a were hanging out, but the real female cyclists competing in all their kit etc. It gives me something to aim for and to think about when I'm dying on my turbo trainer - a mental image of myself, flying along on my bike, hair flowing in the wind, thighs pumping etc etc just like those girls (I've got a long, long, long way to go :D )

I'll be a bit sad if it goes.

I these ladies should be named and shamed. It's not as though most of the pictures weren't already in the public domain - we were just linking to them.

Another great loss to the cycling world this week then.

Good to see some female support for the thread, shame its in the minority. I haven't looked at all the pics but those of normal girls in lycra are OK, I can see Poppette's point about those with more flesh than lycra on display. The girls who complained about their pictures in the thread have probably done so because their pics have been included in a 'sleazy' thread and a permission issue might have been to blame also.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • I am the first to admit that we were always walking a thin line....

While I am sure that no one on the thread ever meant anyone to be upset or offended by it, I can understand why someone may not want their pictures adding to such a topic.

Offence was certainly never intended and my only defence is one of admiration rather than anything sleazy!

Certain comments, have at times, been a little close to the bone, but I always felt they were tongue in cheek enough to be overlooked by moderators or the lady in lycra should she stumble accross them.

Hand on heart, if any offence has been caused to anyone, it certainly wasn't meant to be.

If any of my pictures are to blame, I will gladly remove them. Feel free to PM me, if you wish your photos to be removed and I will sort them and applogise.

    Regards

    Ed

Couldn't the pictures of the ladies concerned just be removed from the pages and the topic be allowed to carry on that way?

I don't know why this particular thread is still running - fear not the girls in lycra shorts are going nowhere.

    Well said Gumball.

I think if the thread does now continue, contributors may like to bear in mind that some of the more sleazy shots are probably best left out. I'm pretty sure that the Dad of one of the younger British track riders featured in there somewhere posted on here recently...................imagine how you would feel if you found a picture of your daughter in her race kit alongside photo's from a soft porn shoot. Bit creepy no?

Agree that it did get close to the decency line a few times and the last note about a father seeing his daughterbeing in the same post could cause offence. I'm sure I would be if I were in that position. I hope that it's now taken on board and given consideration in future.

I hope thatoit continuseds in the same light hearted way and I'm gllad that we have backing from Poppette!! :D and others.

That was what got me worried. I am a fan of the thread (Obviously) but always tried to keep it to racing girls, as opposed to the other. I have huge respect for these girls, as racers, rather than just girls in lycra. Seeing said rider on the rollers made me feel massively inadequate as a rider!

I would suggest that we try to keep to tasteful and action shots only from now on. That was, riders can get the right kind of exposure.

I did notice that several of my posts come up if you google "Gabby Day", for example. We have to be aware that potential sponsors may look these riders up before parting with money.

We have to ensure that we safeguard their careers by not getting carried away.

I can quite understand the objections. I admit to looking at the thread a couple of times and I much preferred the shots of 'real' female cyclists to the near porn.

We go to the track with another couple, both still keen riders (5000 mile/year) in their 70s. Margaret is always pleased to see Bradley Wiggins put in an appearance because she thinks he's got a lovely bottom ;) So it's not just we guys.

  • I must say I was most offended by the content of the 'Girls....... ' thread!!

All these years of cycling and nobody thought to post a picture of me........DAMN IT!!!

Anyway, how about an all inclusive 'Persons in Lycra shorts on bikes with Ultegra/Chorus equivalent or better groupsets' thread. Preferably clad in Rapha and Assos. That should please all us pervs and fettishists.

Damn - looks like I missed quite a bit whilst away for a few days. The "girls in lycra shorts" thread was always worth a look in and I have to say that the shots that Peter216 unearthed of actual cross-cycling and racing were utterly fantastic, very inspirational. The sleazo MTB stuff was just smutty (but still good) and could perhaps have been shunted to another thread (e.g. soft-core riders).

What do I ride? Now that's an Enigma!
