Optimum Carb Concentrations?

Hi all
I am currently using either SIS or Torq products for carbohydrate drinks while on the bike. What I want to know is what are the maximum concentrations (%) that can be used before water has to be drawn into the gut (resulting then in a dehydrating effect)..
Most manufacturers suggest 6-9%. Also, even if you have a 6-9% solution and you want to take in more carbs in the form of a bar or gel, does this have the same effect and end up with a carb goo sitting your the gut having to draw water in and again dehydrating you..
I guess that its less of an issue in the winter as hydration needs are not as acute as in the summer. Do you basically have to take in a certain amount of water for a certain amount of carbs to remain hydrated and fuelled..
Waffly question ... sorry!

Higher concentrations of carb will pass the stomach wall more slowly - so yes gel goop will take longer if not diluted, but is probaly still quicker than a chocolate bar or sarnie. Salts and carb concentration can affect water uptake and too strong concentrations will cause 'discomfort' . HAving said that I think in winter altho' water needs might be lower you'd be surprised how much you do sweat - I'd go for real food and water as you are probably riding more gently adn save the chemical whizz for the summer.
