It's a common topic on the car/motorbike forums....

So, how many miles have your bikes done?

2000 on my Specialised and 50 odd so far on the SCR :D

    i have no idea,

define bike, in this build the mountain bike has probably got over 100 miles on it in the year it's been built, but all the parts off it except frame and brakes came off another bike that died.

the road bike, goodness knows, ride it all over the place and due to it's age it could easily have done 10000 miles

Looking at the speedo, nearly 6000 but that is since I started using my dead Sigma on my Kona/Alpine Star and all the other bikes it's graced. In reality my currrent steed a SS GT which has been on the road since late November, a paltry 120 miles. noe the summer is coming, hope to put more miles on my marathons.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Rough estimate about 3000 on the current mountain bike, I found the frame for my road bike in a bin so it's impossible to say, but it's clearly seen a lot of use. My computers seem to die and become an expensive clock long before I wear a bike out.

Did nearly 2000 on my commuting bike before I got I a computer. Then I stopped counting, and let the computer do it for me. However whenever I get over 300miles recorded on the clock the computer seems to malfunction and needs a restart. That's happened a few times now, so I reckon I've done about 3000miles.

Somewhere around the 2000 mark on my current bike, just going by number of commutes donex mileage of commute, in coming up for 11 months Ive been commuting I reckon closer to 2600 miles but thats between two bikes. Oddly enough when I owned a car I was doing around 12000 miles a year, including work and back, those "little trips" must have really really added up... All part of the massive amounts of money Ive saved by ditching the car

My every day hack is showing 5875 mile's. It showed about 7800 miles on the previous battery and probably another 7000 the time before that. That would make over 20,000 miles.

If only I had a pound for every mile I cycled!
    It's all good.
  • Since I bought the F1x about 5k miles, but that's only the ones I remembered to log on everyday cycling. So far replaced a chain, BB, and torn up 4 tyres on flints on fireroads, which we have a lot of out this way.

  • My Orbit's done 16000. Most major components are original except for the wheels: rebuilt the front & bought a new rear & block.

...it doesn't matter how many miles your bike has done...how many miles has the rider done? :D

I'm not really sure . . . When I had my computer I did about 3500 miles in two years. Just mucking about XC really. Then my computer broke. The amount of riding I did hadn't changed so in 4 years thats 6000 ish. Since September I've been doing 24miles a day 3 days a week . . .adds up to 1440. I guess that takes the total up to 7500/8000 miles! Everything is original equipment except for tyres, handlebar grips, brakes and brake cables. Having said that its totally knackerd and just spent a fortune on new bits! Just need the time to fit 'em all!

One fine day in the middle of the night, two dead men got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other.
  • Just over 6,500 on my new race bike since October '06. Mind you 130 commuting miles a week soon adds up....

As for consumeables it'd be easier to list what I haven't replaced / upgraded !

    Some impressive mileages here :D

Discurio - Heh, not with a paltry 30 odd miles on the clock (I must have remembered it incorrectly) :(:D

  • 22 miles a day
    X 5 days a week
    = 110 miles a week

Say I do 44 'weeks' a year (I've taken off hols etc)
    thats 44 X 110
    = 4840 miles a year

12 years on this frame so...

    12 x 4840
    = 58080 miles

Over 11,000 on the MTB and about 3000 on the road bike. (incidently, that's also about the number of punctures i've had on the road bike  )

Over 30,000 on the road bike and 10,000 on the MTB mainly trudging to and from work. The 10,000 miles of touring on the tandem were the most fun though.

I think I've got age on my side!

I've used my tourer commuter for the last 23 years. Last 12 i've commuted - average 5000 miles a year plus European tours most years say 1000 miles each time.

Before commuting probably 2000 a year

    So say 80 -90000 miles?

Lost count of parts changed - I go through 2 rear tyres a year and one front. Chain and cassette 2x a year chainrings every second year.

I look on rims as wear items use winter set and a summer set. Each winter set lasts two winters. (I build my own wheels). Rims definitely wear faster these days.

Only original parts on the bike are frame and seat pin, and handlebars (not stem) and my Blackburn rear rack (which has a notch in it where the panniers have rubbed against it.

I've had four headsets, 6 or 7 BB's (currently use Shimano sealed but they only last a couple of years) First one i had was a Tange I think which lasted ages.

On my third chainset - last couple have been Stronglight.

I did get the bike stripped and powdercoated 6 years ago and got canti braze ons etc fitted. Got rear spread to 130mm

Only my third saddle (now a Brooks)

Spent ages getting the right mix of gearing for touring and commuting - now use 46-38-28 front and 13-26 rear (8sp) with campag veloce ergo on shimano cassette.

Bike has carried me all over Europe and has been a very faithful companion!! I've got a Flying Scot and a Cinelli Supercorsa, but even at the weekend reach for the tourer (it's 531 c) Love it.

  • Ooh! I feel so inadequate! I've only done 1868.3 miles (spot the closet spreadsheet freak) since this time last year on my Dawes Super Galaxy, which was new when I got it. Mind you, I only commute when it isn't raining, because I'm a big softie!

Let's see; 4 mile round trip X 5 days a week X 45 weeks a year X 8 years = 7200 miles, not counting riding to shops/family/for fun. I was chatting to the owner of my LBS last week about upgrades, and I realised I'm on the original chain and sprockets  Still shifts OK though
  • My bike is 3 weeks old and it has done about 180 miles. I've riden into work about 3 times a week and I've taken the long way home a few times. I've also gone out every weekend. I bought it through the cycle2work scheme and I think I'm sticking to the rule which states that the bike must be used for commuting at least 50% of the time!! I'm proud of myself :D

You do get a pound for every mile you ride, that pound is what you have saved by not paying for petrol, MOT, ins, repairs or public transport.

You must be a rich person now!
  • I've done 14,000 miles on my old touring bike, 6,200 on my mountain bike, 8,000 on my audax bike, and 700 on the new racing bike I bought last October...

  • My old Cannondale CAD2 has done over 25,000 miles! I’ve had it since 1998, and use it in the summer for my 46-mile round trip commute. It has over 8,000 miles since I had to replace the speedo. Most weeks in the summer I do at least 150 miles (two commutes, Saturday club run and assorted short trips) on one of my bikes. The summer commute is easy on the bike (see my post on “does anyone have an Edinburgh courier?”
    http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... c&start=15)
, and I managed 15,000 miles on one set of rear brake blocks! The cannondale is starting to wear out, and my courier is doing well at just over 2,000 miles – only replacing rear tyre after problems, brake blocks, and bottom bracket, and tightening rear spokes which worked loose. Also a Kryptonite New York rattled itself into not working mounted on the frame.
  • I ride around 6500 miles a year and I've been using my current bike since 2000 so in excess of 45500.

Before it became my commuter I used to race it and I've had it 12ish years so it's probably done over 50000 miles
