It is reported that Sheldon Brown died of a massive heart attack last night.
Let's all hope that this is not confirmed as true.

Errm. That would be horrendous if true. I can see no confirmation of it elsewhere. Where did you see it?0

No mention of it on the Bicycling.com forumI'd rather walk than use Shimano0

Within the past half hour Harris Cyclery updated its website
http://sheldonbrown.com/harris/
with the news about Sheldon. An hour ago one of Sheldon's friends sent out an email on the Charles River(Boston) Wheelmen's list about Sheldon's fatal heart attack. I didn't know wikipedia recognized Sheldon

I learned so much from his website when I was teaching myself to fix bikes. A sad, sad day.0

What truly sad news this is. My condolences to Sheldon Brown's family and friends.0

Couldn't agree more with the sentiments expressed here. For me Sheldon Brown's site represented the very best side of both cycling and the internet.0
-
Oh no. That's just awful.
His site was so wonderful. Not only the bike stuff - which was unbeatable - but just his whole friendly attitude - and the way he put trivial things like photos of his holidays and family up there too.
RIP Sheldon. Condolences to his family and friends.0 -
Sad news indeed, my bikes would be falling to bits if not for his website, my source of all things to do with bike repair, and an important unbiased site at that. he will be dearly missed. My thoughts to his family and friends.0

Sad news. Seemed one of the good guys to me. Corresponded once about Raleighs as I recall.

Very sad day. I built my first wheel using the guide on his site. He will be sorely missed.0

Sad news indeed - whenever I was stuck with a bike tech problem I'd do two things - ask on CyclingPlus (now here) and check Sheldon Brown - between you lot and him I was never let down. Rest in peace.
it's a hard life if you don't weaken.0 -
The guy is/was a legend. Just imagine how many clueless newbies (myself among them) have been directed to his website for enlightenment...........what a legacy to leave!

RIP Sheldon.
Terrible news. I never met him or corresponded with him, but the things I learnt from his site played a major role in making cycling a big part of my life. There aren't many people who make such a positive impact on so many others. He will be sadly missed.0 -
RIP
you certainly helped me understand the ways of the bike

A sad start to the day indeed. His site is a fantastic resource and will, one hopes, be a fitting memorial for a helpful and knowledgeable man. He had that rare knack of explaining complex things in a simple, straightforward way.
I built a fixed gear bike for the first time last year and wouldn't have been able to do it without his help.0 -
An Aside.
I know that in the scheme of things a pretty meaningless gesture, but is there any way in which "we" could bundle these thoughts into a message to his family?d.j.

I was thinking that too.
His website is part of the Harris Cyclery website (where he worked) and someone has updated that - perhaps we could send them a link to this thread?0
