How do you mean naff derailler? What was wrong with it (getting worried)?

Ah sorry to worry you, part of it was cracked, either in post or there, I'm not sure, but they sent a new one out pretty quick. I didn't get to see it. You got your cable yet?

Nearly there - just waiting for the dérailleur cable now.

I've found that my Trainer keeps the bike steady better the cheapo workstand from Decathlon.

yep - the trainer s useful for that - very sturdy!

it's loking great - I see you haven't dared cut the steerer tube yet - you going to play with the fit first?

Glad you got a new cable sent out quick-sharpish - should be done for the weekend!
(just as it's forecast even more rain!!)

azzerb - your spec sounds good too - get some pics and get them on here - I can't believe you have a carbon framed, centaur equipped and vento wheeled bike for a grand!! well done

there are a few of us doing builds at the moment - it's quite cool to share experiences etc - I guess this is the beauty of the internet - a few years ago we'd just have struggled on in our own houses blisfully unaware that other people are worrying about f@cking things up too!! - isn't it great?

Looking great Reddraggon. We need to discuss your taste in furniture though

The furniture isn't mine, it's a rented flat I've got for 12months while I do an Industrial Placement for university.

I'm already thinking I need a shorter stem - I'm glad I didn't buy an expensive one to start with.

Probably not too late to send it back and exchange it is it?

I'm not sure yet, I need to try the bike on the road, my other bike fits me but it feels awful on the turbo.

what size stem do you have?

you need to try a few of these things I think - if you can't exchange it, you will at least get a decent price back on ebay and allow you to try a different one.

120mm, got a 90mm on the other bike, so I might just go for 90mm again.

I think, mathematically, the geometry (with the 120mm) is pretty similar to the other bike, so I'll give it a try, I think it's just the trainer throwing me off.

Raise the front of the bike up on a yellow pages or something to get it flat. Should feel more natural then.

yeah - I was going to say - could be the uneven feel of the trainer.

but again - even if you have to try a 100 and a 90 - you should be able to do so with minimal cost - ebay is your friend in circumstances like these!

    Yeah Red looking good!

As Heavymental says you need to lift the front wheel off the ground either with a riser block for turbos or just a phone book to level it out as the back wheels off the ground too.

Just a thought and don't shoot the messenger but you might want to tape the other drop as well to keep weight evenly distributed

You'll be fed up with all the teasing I'm sure so well done and thanks for sharing your build with us all!

The look good, it's a possibility. I've seen SRAM Red shifters with white hoods - but I didn't know you could get them for Campag.

I might get some decals made up for the bike, it's looking a little plain.

What kind of decals you gonna get?

I dare you to get "BIGBALLS" for your down tube and see how many people think theres a bike manufacturer called BIGBALLS.

    Juvenilely brilliant!

Anyone who pays $1000+ for a set of brakes from that site has to have too much money, but they are probably a best seller

I feel obliged to point out that there's something very frustrating about building up a shiny new bike at this time of year. Mine's been hung up in the garage for a month, as there's no way I'm going to abuse it by taking it out in current road conditions (so far it's done a grand total of about 1 mile).

Aye, I know, I wasn't on planning on getting a bike until the good weather, but I had the money already saved and there were a few irresistible bargains out there so I couldn't wait.

It probably won't see any Tarmac until the weather turns (April?).

Good point aracer. I'm going to be building mine in a couple of weeks but have already said I'm not going to make its first ride a damp one! The sun must be beating down and no wind before I wheel it out the door!

hey red - did the cable turn up today?

You going to get it finished off over the weekend?

Unfortunately I don't think it did, I got it sent to work, but Logistics didn't tell me I had anything, and I didn't bother to go and find out.

I'm in no rush anyway. While it's not finished I can't take it out on the scummy roads and get it all messed up.

I got my tape measure out and compared the reach on both my bikes, my old bike with 90mm stem is roughly equal to the new one with the 120mm stem, so I think it's just the turbo trainer playing with my head.

I just need a decent computer now.

I want one with cadence, but is it worth getting a computer with built in HR or a seperate HRM?

Is it worth getting wireless or sticking with wired? I don't fancy having to change batteries too often.

    Any ideas?

Can't fault my Garmin Forerunner 305, Wireless, HR, Cadence, GPS accuracy, full data logging on the PC etc etc..

I believe the Edge 305 is the same but purely for the bike ( I also use my forerunner for running )

    Great bit of kit IMO

The difference being that unlike the Forerunner 305, the Edge 305 does accurate altitude.
