Do you like riding in the rain?

I love it,even when I get drenched by inconsiderate motorists who seem to enjoy hitting a puddle as they pass you,and we've had some huge puddles around here of late.I commute 8 miles each way to work, and even though my wet weather gear is poor,in a good downpour I'm soaked through to the skin,it doesn't affect me,and I stay warm, because of the energy I'm using.I really don't know for sure if there is more oxygen in the air, during rain, but if my very poor school chemistry is right, then as water is defined as H2o,i.e., 2 oxygen to every atom, then with the oxygen in the air, also, that would seem to make sense to me.
Getting back to riding in the rain, friends at work very often offer me a lift, when it's raining ,when I decline they think I'm nuts, especially when we're having a real deluge,as of late.Mnbucyclecommuter came up with a good retort on his blog i.e., "rain doesn't hurt".But I think I came back with, what could be,a bicycle commuter type sticker,

...the lyrics to one of my favourite songs, Rain by the Beatles...
If the rain comes they run and hide their heads.
They might as well be dead.
If the rain comes, if the rain comes.
When the sun shines they slip into the shade
(When the sun shines down.)
And sip their lemonade.
(When the sun shines down.)
When the sun shines, when the sun shines.
Rain, I don't mind.
Shine, the weather's fine.
I can show you that when it starts to rain,
(When the Rain comes down.)
Everything's the same.
(When the Rain comes down.)
I can show you, I can show you.
Rain, I don't mind.
Shine, the weather's fine.
Can you hear me, that when it rains and shines,
(When it Rains and shines.)
It's just a state of mind?
(When it rains and shines.)
Can you hear me, can you hear me?
If the rain comes they run and hide their heads...all the way...'til the wheels fall off and burn...0 -
Rain's not too bad once you get going. It's putting on wet trainers before you set off that's really unpleasant.
The river I cross to work has flooded at the moment, so yesterday evening and this morning I was cycling through 2+ feet of water. Might take the extra distance and go back on the roads for the rest of the week...0 -

Humans need O2 molecules and can't take the Oxygen atoms out of a molecule of water (I'm not a biologist - but water is involved in some sort of ATP cycle though?) unfortunately.
An analogy - a fire needs oxygen and fuel to continue burning - but you throw water on it and the fire goes out! Same with respiration.0 -

I learnt a little trick off another cyclist for wet shoes - stuff em full of tissues or those more substantial hand towels that you get in office loo's (assuming you haven't got hand driers!)
I did this the other day with my soaked trainers and whilst it didn't dry them out perfectly the tissue was still quite wet as it had absorbed some water during the day!0 -
wow i feel like a bit of i coward now. i walk when it rains. i'm still technacallly in the rain but i don't take my bicycle cos the brakes go funny and it gets dirty. but the above only stand for the rain i'm seeing now (winter) in summer i like it cos the sun heats and the rain cools, strangely enjoyable effect plus the rain isn't that heavy i espeicially like when it feels like a spray against your face. mmmm... coolingIn the valley of high oil prices the cyclist is king!0

I rode in yesterday - 11 miles into the wind, but chose to risk the hybrid through the woods instead of the road bike on the ...er...roads.
58mph wind shot-blasting my face with rain drops that felt more like air gun pellets, in the middle of woods and farmland with absolutely nobody else about, and the wind making a truely awe-inspiring 'WHOOOO' through a row of poplars at the top of a hill.
It was my adventure for the day. I wouldn't have missed it, or the looks of amazement mixed with (well concealed) admiration from my colleagues when I got in to work.
Life's far too short to drive on days like that.Cycle killer? Qu'est ce que c'est?0 -
We cycle through a ford every day. Its usually about 10ft wide and about 4 inches deep with clear water.
Today it was about a foot deep, 20ft wide and completely full of mud - the crossing was rather "interesting" but we both made it okay!
I find it all a bit of fun really but we do work from home and do a 10 miler every day before work as a "pretend commute" so drying stuff is easy.0 -
No, 'cos it's usually windy as well. Rain I can cope with (atlhough my brakes become a little theoretical....)
It's just a hill. Get over it.0 -

Rain I can handle, but when the hail stones start coming down (like this morning), that stings.Bianchi Via Nirone Veloce/Centaur 20100

Agree, was a painful ride in this morning. Gale force wind, horizontal rain/hailstones and then some thunder and lightning for good measure.
Today is the first time I've arrived at work and actually been relieved that I made it in one piece...0 -
The worst I can report today was a nasty gust coming onto Elephant and Castle from Camberwell! Took me quite by surprise as it hadn't been very windy up to that point to! Having started off this morning with the waterproofs on I stopped to change after 5 minutes as it didn't actually look like it was gonna start raining again and I was baking hot!!0

There isn't any more O2 in air when it is raining, just more water.

How on earth does this get to six pages without anyone saying 'ooh, I love a nicde wet ride, me'?!0

My 2 cents. This thread has no importance to me, so I saw no reason to respond. This morning I was very, very bored, had no job on the table so I thought I would surf BR. Then saw this thread, and responded.
BR forums are around 75 on my priority list. Just the facts.0
