Who is the minority?

  • I think, to be honest, that it's a middle ground.

I cycle all the way across zone 1 and back every day, and I certainly don't abide by every law, but where I do break laws it is for my own safety. For example, rather than trying to turn right across 4 lanes of traffic, I cycle slowly and carefully down a usually deserted stretch of pavement to my work, about 200m. I was stopped by a Policeman last year for doing so, explained my reasoning, and he agreed that it was safer and left me to carry on.

What I think is most important is consideration for other road users. I always thank drivers who let me pull out, pedestrians who see me and decide against jaywalking in front of me, generally anyone who helps make my life easier. Equally, if I happen upon a pedestrian crossing, I will stop if there is someone on it. I don't push my way in front of cars, unless there is a big truck next to me which I am afraid won't see me.

And hopefully soon my consideration will be returned!!

Me too, although I often feel a bit strange nodding approval at a driver who is turning right in front of me and has stopped to let me continue straight on...

I always thumbs up buses who sit behind me when coming up to a bus stop.

I always say thanks to peds who wait to cross the bike super highway in Hyde Park.

    Spread the love man.
