Not sure what speed the wind was but early last year on the way back to work after lunch I turned a corner and the wind stopped me dead in my tracks it was like hitting a brick wall. The same day a woman went for a walk under some trees and was hit by a falling branch, now she's suing the council because it's their fault she was stupid enough to walk under trees in high winds. :?:

I don't understand how the council can be held responsible for falling branches :?

Maybe it was the council's fault for not educating her properly?

Nope the wind does get gusty in the UK now, strong constant winds - yep fine, but the ones that pick up and blast...not fun as not predictable. I've done the riding at 45 degrees to the road on exposed hill tops, but had it been gusty, then I and the rest of the club would have been off. Gets much gustier in towns/suburbia as the buildings deflect a lot of the wind.

    Doesn't stop me riding though ! :D
  • You know it's too windy when you get blown off your bike and wake up in 1973 :P ....seriously, watch those crosswinds

It was council land she was walking on @ the time. She even got on the front page of the local rag. It says a lot about todays people that a laywer would even take the case on. It boils down to one word GREED.
They should sue her for being stupid.

Someone tried doing that already, and the court took them seriously... althrough it was sueing god for the volcano's and tornado's etc.

Was in the sun a while back.

Forecast 38mph winds tomorrow around my way. Would you go out in that?

Not on the bike! I don't mind cold weather, rain, but if there's more than 20mph winds, then i'm taking the tube. I absolutely HATE head-on winds on my way to work. I arrive there exhausted and in a really bad mood, for some reason.. ! :(

Did they win? It would set an interesting precedent if they did :-)

Would money fall out of the sky then?
  • Hehe you guys should visit Wellington, NZ - known as the windy city! It's windy everyday, and I don't mean a gentle breeze of 20mph! My cut off is 50 mph, but I know people (heavier than my massive 55kg) that ride when it's blowing it tits off (75+ mph). It ain't much fun!

Dont know I didn't follow the story.

But as far as the paper said they may have had some trouble as neither god nor any of his representatives were reachable to make an official statement.

    What a shame

I go out in all types of wind... But give up when I spend more time going backwards than I do forwards!
Or when I'm riding along and hit an open gap where the wind catches me and sends me shooting across the road/path. I don't like that much...

yeh, I got blown into the middle of the road a couple of times today. I don't like that much either. Nice to have sun though eh? I think wind is worse than rain.

It was fine in the end here in sunny MK.
Don't think the wind can have got anywhere near the 19mph predicted.
It was a slog coming home into the headwind, but not as bad as it could have been.

I'm disappointed with today’s forecast, they were forecasting 28mph winds with gusts up to 50mph, I was really looking forward to having that as a tail wind, after struggling against it
The wind wasn't quite as strong, although it was still quite windy.

Went out last Tuesday in those strong winds, there where times when I thought the wind was going to blow me over, had 1 or 2 hairy moments and at times I was down to just 8 mph, but it was worth it in the end, was able to maintain 30+ mph for quite a few miles, overtook a car in the process. 8)

I managed to catch and overtake a callow youth on one of those mopeds that look like a race (motor)bike. Gave him one of my best smiles as I sailed by....... :D

The harder than usual effort required by riding into the wind first thing was greatly rewarded by the feeling of speed without the effort on the return leg. With trhe sun shing bright all was well in cycling heaven this morning.

  • Yesterday was pretty close to being a nightmare! The wind never stopped all day.

Still manages 102 miles though. And a fair few hills! 8)

TODAY! definitely too windy to go out. I draw the line at gusts of 80mph.
Just done a ride on the turbo instead. How annoying, Wednesday is my big ride day.
