It's normally done in the autumn isn't it?
Anyway, there's no mention of it on either the Royal Parks website or the Friends of Richmond Park one. They usually mention it.0 -
I think it's usually a 6 week spell from early November, if memory serves. So should be ending soon.0

I wanted to start training there in the evenings next week which is why i asked. will check out this w/e ... they have yellow signs up at the gates when the cull is on.
i notice the friends of RP are doing a vote on the greatest threats to RP.. through traffic (cars) is second after aircraft noise as things stand.0 -

I'd love to think that cars would be next to go from the park, but as I understand it there is a real split among local residents on all sides. This is likely to make progress on this issue painfully slow.
Added to which, I remember reading somewhere that the local authorities in the area are generally in favour of re-opening the Robin Hood Gate to traffic (technically this is a trial experiment which is still ongoing). That would be a disaster for cyclists as far as I can tell, as it would re-open a direct route from the A3.
It's so short-sighted to see the park as a convenient traffic overspill area.0 -
I am fairly sure that the cull finished before xmas. I noticed that the sign on the Kingston gate had gone thus suggesting that it had finished. Anyhow, it only shut at 8pm for cyclists even during the cull.0

You're right H. But both the Govt. and the RPA have opposed the local authorities on the re-opening of robin hood. It's an old chestnut this one but essentially i agree that it is ridiculous that in a city full of roads and cars such a beautiful area is so heavily used by traffic. It's a classic case of if they go rid of cars in there a few people would squawk and then everyone would ask why it wasn't done sooner. Not likely to happen anytime soon though and the current arrangements are ok if not ideal for cyclists.0 -

What lights do you use when training there at night to avoid becoming one with the wildlife?FCN: 40 -

previously i've just used an electron 5 LED fine for getting the miles in if you are careful
but ... i would like to do some harder work in there so will need to buy something decent. C+ did a test on lights recently.
a good tip is take the heaviest slowest bike you've got.0
