TSS and IF

I just got around to reading the cyclingpeaks link provided by Alex on "that" thread (I started a new thread as I didn't want to take the old one further OT).
The Training Stress Score and Intensity Factor parameters are interesting, I think. However, I don't have a power meter, so it seems like these numbers are not available in my case. Is there a similar scoring system based on HR or RPE? I know it would be less accurate, but was just wondering if it's possible to estimate?
I guess if you know time spent in the different HR zones you could maybe give each a weighting and come up with a number that way?

The Impulse Response model on which the TSS / IF etc are based is not a new concept, just that with power meter data it has been quantified with a level of precision not attainable before.
Look up TRIMPs for a "version" of the concept based on heart rate. You could also assign scores based on PE. A brief intro to TRMPs can be found here:

Also, go back to the Cycling Peaks site and read the article titled "The Scientific Inspiration for the Performance Manager" for a start.0 -
Thanks Alex. This is all going to end up with me buying a power meter, I just know it...Le Blaireau (1)0

Yes but I can't remember the details. Times the minutes spent at each RPE level or something and then something else 'factor' - sorry -heavy New Year :-(0
