Michelin Krylion Carbon

you would prob. have to ask Michelin. They are actually the tyre issued to the teams and I was in France with Dan Duigid a C+ writer who had been testing them at the Michelin factory and he was impressed at the tyres performance even in the wet. It's prob. just marketing, but they are v.v.fast and I've been using them most of the year. In really bad conditions I'd leave them off, but they are good.M.Rushton0

Strangely enough the teams only use the pale blue ones, hence the thought that there may be a difference (prob. an idea of the marketing dept)M.Rushton0

the plot thickens, mrushton. But I do take your point about the pale blue being the limited edition ones. How they differ from the 'normal' service course tyres I wouldn't know.0

Just wait for the Pro 3 (which is appearing on Ebay, and will probably be in the shops by the point in the year you need a tyre like that). Supposedly the P2LE is a development step towards that.0
-
How much for? I already have a Pro Race 2 that I'm going to put on so I want the other tyre to match. Will they look the same except for the logo?0
-
Well if you've already got one PR2, then just buy another one. PR3s are only for those who wouldn't dream of using anything that wasn't the very latest0

Well oi'll be....just found this on ACF.

I guess I might have been quite conspicuous by my absence over the last few months - I had an extended festive break of nearly 9 weeks - not all holiday I must add - had the medial ligaments in both of my knees sorted out - something I've been waiting 18 months for - which forced me to sit on my arse and watch daytime TV and eat crap for a while. Glad to say they are okay now and I'll be back on the bike trying to shed a few pounds imminently!
Whilst I was off, there were some developments regarding the launch of the long awaited Pro3 range. Not to go into too much detail but the external company that makes part of the HDPP (High Density Puncture Protection) fabric went bust leaving us with a problem - should we spend time finding an alternate supplier and ensuring the new material is identical in performance to the one we had planned to use and thus delay the launch or make a lesser tyre (maybe with no HDPP fabric or use something different in the carcass - like Kevlar or aramid - that would offer a high level of puncture resilience but drastically increase the weight) and launch on time at the start of 2008 as planned. It was decided to go for the first option. It took time to find a supplier, test and approve the fabric and homologate it for production but this has now been done and final testing of finished product is happening as we speak so production will begin in earnest shortly.
The second issue we faced was whether we should wait until we had sufficient stock levels of all sizes/colours/versions to do a launch or stagger it through the year. It was felt that with the shortage of Pro2 in the second half of 2007 we would have been absent from the premium road tyre market for too long so we would stagger the launch. As I am sure you appreciate, with a product that will create as much initial interest and demand as this surely will, we need to ensure a good stock in place ready to meet this demand and avoid disappointed consumers. This is true of all manufacturers in all markets - unless you are Nintendo who seem to make about half a dozen Wii's per week and don't care about the countless kiddies crying on Christmas morning - but thats a rant for another day! All initial production will focus on the 700x23C Pro3 Race Dark Grey tyre - the biggest seller by far - which will launch at the start of March. All standard colours in Pro3 Race (blue, red, yellow etc) and other sizes (20mm, 25mm and 650C) will launch in early June. All special colours (Yellow Flash, Orange Signal etc), limited edition combinations (Digital Blue/Tobacco, Orange Signal/Cement - don't ask!) and other versions (Pro3 Light, Pro3 Grip) will be sometime in September - probably at Eurobike.
I only posted on here as I'd been asked when people might see these and instead of answering everyone thought I'd just do a generic posting. Keep an eye out for stuff in the usual press and editorial about the launch nearer the time. Obviously the mags will be testing them too so I hope they are as positive about them as I am - but, then again, I have to be!
Oh, and for those of you who asked about the new City Trekking tyres - there is a delay on some sizes/patterns in that too I'm afraid! Most of the City tyres should be into retailers by the end of this month but the heavily reinforced Pilot City is delayed until the spring!

The PR2s may come down in price in order to clear stocks for the new PR3, but I'd like to get hold of some more of those ltd edition service course issue (ideally reduced in price)
BTW - you left an 's' off the url - it is shinybikes.com.
stock of these to arrive, our tyre delivery was due last week but only
turned up yesterday. Unfortunatley no 25mm arrived.
We have now been informed that Michelin are no longer manufacturing the
Krylion Carbon in 25mm. Please advise if you wish to swap to a 23mm
version or require a full refund.
I've had enough, and have ordered them in 23c instead. Oh well, I rode 23s for years and didn't have a problem, but I just found the 25s slightly more comfortable and robust.0 -
I don't think you "just missed them".
Add Shiny Bikes to the blacklist of shops who advertise (and happily take payment for) stuff they don't have in stock. I had the same reply about the Service Course tyres.
I just pre-ordered Pro Race 3s from Parker.0
