Does anyone know of a UK source for 700 * 25c Michelin Krylion Carbon tyres in Black/Grey? I've checked all the places that I can think of (Wiggle, Chain Reaction, Parker International, Ribble etc.) and noone seems to have them in stock. Are Krylions being phased out?

I prefer to use 25c on my audax bike because they definitely feel more comfortable than the 23s I used to use.

No but please, if you do find them anywhere do share the joy.

I wanted 25s. I've been running 23's since about mid-October and they've been good and, while the Krylion 23's seem to plant a bigger contact on the road than the GP4000(S) I had on before, I'd still like to try some 25mm.

Never heard of this site (found it via Bikepimp.co.uk) but they seem to be able to get what you're after, albeit in a few days.

Thanks for that - I've emailed them to confirm availability. I've seen a couple of sites advertising them, but when you come to order, there is a problem - Ribble, for example.

I too hunted high and low for 25s with no luck. Apparently I was told it was to with the fact that they were using the same machines for which they use to manufacture Krylions to start producing the new ProRace 3s.

Had to get 23s in black/grey from probikekit.com in the end. Didn't really matter imo as they are great tyres in that size anyway.

I ended up with the same tyre as yourself and have found their puncture/cut resistance to be something else. ran a set of GP4000's in the summer of last year and found loads of cuts and a set of GP4000S for not much more than a weekend and found cuts in those.

Have found no cuts in the Krylions in nigh on two months.

However I've reluctantly decided to try my scrubbed in Fortezza Tricomps from my summer wheels on my winter wheels so I'll see how those fair over the weekend (work on New Year's Eve).
  • Perhaps these tyres last too long to make a profit for Michelin

Perhaps they do but I have to say that if this is the reason Kyrilion carbons are in short supply ie the ProRace 3 thing, how short sighted this is of a company the size of Michelin.

DotBike replied promptly - they don't have 25s in stock and said that everyone is having problems getting hold of Michelin tyres since they changed their distribution system recently. They will phone around early in the New Year and see if they can source some 25s.

I was in the Ribble shop the other day and they had 1x 25mm Krylion - I was tempted to buy it and stick it on ebay! I can't even get my LBS to stock them - only special order the 25mm because they say there's no demand. Instead they stock the appalling Specialized Mondos which have no grip whatsoever.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Probikekit had some stock last week but they have all gone.

They did tell me the shortage was due to the fact Michelin were producing the Prorace 3's.

Oh well - dotbike couldn't get the Krylions in 25c. Interesting comment from them:
No joy I'm afraid. I've spoken to my three distributors none of whom
have seen more than drips of Michelin stock since July. Giant have
contracted Michelin to shod this years bikes with the Pro Race 3 and it
appears all Michelins production is on these. The Pro Race 3 were
supposed to be available to retailers in November and there is still no
      delivery date.

I just found out that there is a world rubber shortage. This article is 15 months old but it might explain some of the problems we are having.

I think I'll use my newish front Krylion 25c to to replace my worn out rear tyre and get a 23c for the front for now (while I still can?).

Does that mean Pro Race 2's will be going and replaced by Pro Race 3 soon? Are they likely to be any better/more expensive?

Well i would have thought they will be better heavymental, I think they're due in about May time. It's hard to think they will be better than the 2's though. The service course tyres were sublime.

I will be getting a pair as soon as they become available personally.

mm...I want my bike build up and running by then so think I'll get a pair of Race 2's before they disappear from the shelves.

They should be coming down in price once the 3s are out of course. 2s are a brilliant tyre imo.

      I got 2 x Krylions (25mm) this week from www.shinybike.com

The PR2s may come down in price in order to clear stocks for the new PR3, but I'd like to get hold of some more of those ltd edition service course issue (ideally reduced in price)

My Pro2 tyres have "service course" on them - are these the ltd edition ones?

Hey, thanks for that Mark, I've just ordered 3 for a total of £47.20 incl. p&p - a bargain!

BTW - you left an 's' off the url - it is shinybikes.com.

No, the limited edition only came in the pale blue and in a twin pack. Strangely enogh, www.shinybikes.com also have a stock of them (£44.95). When my g/friend rode in the Alps for the first time, I fitted a set to her bike and she was initially terrified as she had never ridden a tyre so fast. she was used to cheaper long wearing tyres.

Hmmm. I've just ordered a set of the Service Corse jobs for my TCR C2 - it sounds like they have to be tried!
