Riding after a cold

I read the recent thread about the effects cold can have on riding but what about the after effects of a cold? I went out on Sunday when of course temperatures were low and was absolutely knackered even though all my cold symptoms had cleared up the previous week. How long before you are back to normal after a cold?

If it was just a head cold and the symptoms had cleared, one is normally okay for the following week however in the very cold weather everybody tires more quickly. I suspect it is because much of the energy is used in keeping the body warm also the cold air makes one gasp more quickly.
By the way did you notice that just prior to getting the cold you seemed to be stronger than normal? My colleagues and I have noticed that the few days prior to being ill with a cold or flu ones cycling form/fitness temporarily improves. Has anybody else been aware of this?0
