If you want one get one. They both sound OK. For me I get too bored on those things.
So most of my winters are spent running and weight training. But I used to use them.
Best I could do was about an hour before I started to go sorta crazy. Maybe it was
just me. Good luck.

I strongly reccomend turbo training. I also strongly reccomend a structured plan for use each time otherwise you will go mad

  • Yes, you need structure, but I would recommend getting the best turbo you can.
Basically, the bigger the flywheel, the more realistic (like riding on the road) the trainer will be.

Yeah I've neen following your blog Kant, keep it going :D When was the last time you rode with ACC?

PS don't forget you have to re-measure two revolutions of the back wheel and divide by 2 to get accurate wattage measurement

PS 2 By the way No one says pulse meter anymore - its heart rate monitor
  • If you do get one, add a large fan to your list - and a few DVDs.

I read your blog as well. The bit where you say about the Turbo not being boring because its pain and a sort of torture, so true, exactly what I was thinking while on mine yesterday. I wish I had got one with a power meter. I have no idea how much power I generate but I am able to use higher gears on it than when I started. I'm sure the resistance is more than I experience on the road. What gear ratio and cadence are you at when generating 300 ish watts?

Edit - on second thought resistance must also be a factor and we have different Turbo's.
  • Hi Toks,

last time i rode with ACC was about 4 weeks ago. Can't usually get out much on Sat due to various problems although I was out more in the summer on a Sat.Anyway,I hate riding in the cold :D

    Hi richardjallen,

Yeah, that's right. It can't really equate, if you have a different turbo .
One thing I've heard people do is put an ordinary speedo (wired, since a wireless won't work) with the sensor on the rear wheel. That gives you an idea of how much you're improving.
