In the south east it was cold, very windy and very rainy. Character building comes to mind.

I had the usual shall I/shan't I debate with myself over breakfast, and having a slow puncture on my winter bike swung it for me and I went on the turbo instead for my longest ever recorded session..........(which wasn't all THAT long, I hasten to add). I came to the conclusion that time, the perception of time and the passage of time are very strange things when sat on a turbo. I watch it, I divide it up, I count it down, it looks enormous to begin with and afterwards it's all passed in a flash........... :?

But yes, I got a funny kind of pleasure from my ride this morning. :D

I havnt done anything since last Sunday so decided yesterday I would definatley go out and make up for it.

I was outside for almost five hours and got very wet and cold by the end, however it is strangely rewarding riding in poor conditions, the worse it gets the more fun it becomes!

I too live in the southeast so know what conditions you are talking about.

The same thing occurs to me when on the turbo, "Time and tide wait for no man - except the man on the turbo waiting for 60:00 mins to come up on the display!"

I went out in North Cumbria in driving rain and sleet.

And then had to endure winter shopping.

I was out for a couple of hours - aren't waterproof boots brilliant ? My only error was not wearing waterproof socks as well - so in the end they filled up.

  • I bottled it as well, went on the indoor rower instead and got a PB for 10,000 metres instead. The forecast for tomorrow looks much better so I plan to be out early round the Essex lanes.

Rode to work at 8am - great conditions. The ride home was less good - driving rain and into a stiff gusty headwind!

It wasn't raining when I started todays 2h ride so the barrier to getting out the door wasn't too bad. It soon kicked off though and the 2nd hour was quite wet. Still, It had to be done and I was focussed on maintaining the pace so wasn't dwelling on how wet I was getting.

Our club run consisted of.....................4 today, and one of them went home soon after setting off.

Early cafe stop and then carried on for a total of about 4 hours on the fixie - couldn't feel my feet by the end of the ride - but better than going out tomorrow according to the forecast

Went out this morning though, Very cold, snow on the top of Boltby.
Fail to prepare prepare to fail :D:cry:
As there was salt on the road I just grabbed my old steel hack bike, It's been a while since I've ridden Boltby, and my normal bike weighs a lot less than this 30+lb steed. I was struggling to say the least and it got to the point I knew I would have to stop. I jammed the brakes on and got off, I then tried to push the bike only to see the rear wheel skid, on closer inspection I realised the rear skewer had not been tight enough and the wheel was jammed against the frame. With freed wheel I the remounted and rode over to Hawnby where I turned round and headed for home. Things were not right it's years since Mr Boltby has beaten me so as I got to the bottom I stopped turned round and nailed it to the top turned round in front of some mountain bikers just getting out of there car turned round and rode down again. Still not satisfied I rode it again, said Hi to the mountain bikers who were still messing about with there bikes then rode home feeling a lot better. Job Done

  • Good ride this morning, started slow but got better (especially after a scone at the cafe). Flew the last 20 miles back, most of the time spent on the drops, was great. Only a few out from the club today which I was suprised about.

Now for a nice hot bath.

  • went out for 4 hours this morning, including a tea stop at the seaside :D was cold but quite nice to start with. LAst hour was starting to get to be hard work as it started drizzling and the wind ( headwind of course) got up.

But, yes, I did enjoy it
  • went out this morning at 4.30 and it was lush! Empty roads low wind and no rain. Could have ridden all day but had to be back so ony did a 60miler. Luckily for me go in the house got changed and it started raining! :P

I love it when that happens.

  • three and a quarter hours slow - usually ride solo but joined club 'mince pie' run which reminded me of the many reasons not to do Sunday club runs - too slow, people with NO mudguards, people not calling out hazards. Funny, 'cause on Saturdays there is a different group from the club do a run where NONE of the above apply.
Anyway found my waterproof gloves aren't waterproof if I forget to tuck them inside the end of my waterproof top so that the water runs down into them. I won't do that again as today it rained a good two and a half hours of the ride.

  • Got absolutely soaked on a two hour run today - was planning to do more but I forgot to wear overshoes and did not have a proper rain jacket with me.

It was my first time out since May (due to birth of my daughter) so my excuse for forgetting kit was that I was rusty.

Anyway, it was good to get out, going out 3 times in the next two weeks then I am off to India to join the wife and daughter for 3 weeks!

Great weather in the North East today, a bit on the chilly side but sunny and hardly any wind, though most of the mud from the verges had been washed into the road by the rain yesterday.

My knee felt much better today so I managed a 30 miler. Ok not mega distances but my longest ride for 2 months. Just looking back at my training long and I have done a decent climb since the start of July. This might explain my distinct lack of fitness! It just felt soooooo good to ride along without any knee pain. I have been struggling for 6 months now and can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. Just need to remind myself to build it up slowly.

10-mile TT, very windy and I sucked balls - but it was good for a buzz.

Yesterdays weather forecast was a load of rubbish - went out after lunch and it just got better, ending in a glorious sunset over Hope Valley - old steel bike takes the edge of things though. Anyone want to buy an M&B 531 ST tourer!!

5 of us - 75km hilly using the lanes around Hampshire..... good fun.

Yesterday.... whimped and managed to make a 60mins session on the turbo. About 59mins after boredom set.

  • Been mountain biking up in Glentress Forest, Scotland today :D

Not done any off-roading before, but the outer chain ring on the MTB looked smaller than the inner on my road double

I consequently smashed my mates to pieces on the hill climbs thanks to superior roadie fitness and strength, but lost out badly on the down hills as I didn't have the balls or experience to jump quickly and tear through forest tracks!

We did the 'severe' category track, and struggled for grip in some 3 inches of snow on the higher elevations. Some of the tracks were mental! One foot wide, lined with jagged rocks and a 500ft fall awaiting anybody who slightly strays to the side

About 10 of us on yesterday's club run. It rained the entire time, and we were frozen by the end. My cold felt worse afterwards. :( After the event, I've always enjoyed it though! :D

Today it started to pour just as I was getting ready to set off. I decided to bottle it (couldn't face another soaking, especially given aforementioned cold). But the club run (of 3) opted to come via my house and made me get changed into my cycling gear and get on my bike...it would've been rude to refuse!
