I am happy to stand corrected, especially if langerdan thinks he was clean. What were the times though? 5 mins maybe? In that case it really is a big margin. Golf and tennis are completely different. I would love to be convinced he was clean (and I'm easily convinced if I want something). How about this, can we have advocates for his cleanliness, and devil's advocates?

I was careful not to make any statement about whether or not Cancellara was clean (I'm sounding like Spen now!). As secretsquirrel pointed out, Cancellaras margin in the TdF prologue was not massive and much of it can be attributed to technique. Regarding the Worlds, a friend of mine has attended the last few events and described Cancellara as "awesome" on the descents.
Someone has already noted that if Fabian is doping, it makes a total mockery of what is supposed to be current "best practice" in anti-doping. We have been fooled before, but the fact that Cancellara is fairly poor on longer climbs and mountain stages gives me some hope. If he starts climbing like Hincapie we're screwed.

  • By way of update, the public prosecutor is sifting through the files of the Freiburg docs at the moment.

It seems that all of the names of T-Mobile riders are correctly listed etc but "at least two names given don't fit with the 'structure'".

The public prosecutor doesn't say anything clearer than that but it sounds as if there are two more names which may not be T-Mobile riders or where the names and addresses raise suspicions and might be code names.

I am speculating here somewhat as they don't say more than this but my guess is we haven't heard the last of this inquest.

So who else went to see the good doctors?
Another German rider maybe? Voigt anyone?

(sorry, I have become suspicious of those lone break-away riders able to hold off entire peletons)

    Perhaps ex T-Mobile riders?

Or other German guys who were friendly with the inner circle?

I guess knowing which time period they're looking at would give us more of a clue. But I do think you're right, we've not heard the last of it. Having involvement with any rider from T-Mob 06 will come back to haunt you.

There were two German Gerolsteiner riders in the top 10 of the TT that followed the hospital visit.

Oh. I must have a look. Unless you could help me out.

Didn't they find dubious names under which the doping treatments were concealed just last week? I remember reading they found false identities with the clinic's address listed as their home addresses. That would qualify as "not within the structure" to me.
  • For the record, I wasn't stating as a fact that Cancellara was anything less than 100% honest. I was bemoaning my cynicism more than anything, but I can't help it. History has shown too many significant victories to have been "aided"

Not good news for Rogers and Kloden with Werner Franke stating on a local German radio station that he is convinced that the whole 2006 T-Mobile TdF team made the trip to Freiburg for transfusions.

OK, so why was Ullrich working with Fuentes if these guys at Freiburg were able to cater for the whole team's blood tranfusing needs? Were they only doing blood, and Jan wanted the full monty, steroids, HGH etc.?

I suspect it might be something to do with the Cecchini link. Most of the non-Spanish riders (or from Spanish teams) who are linked to Fuentes had some kind of link to Ceccho (see Ullrich, Basso, Hamilton)

He started working with Fuentes during his Coast / Bianchi time and maybe liked his style more than the Frieburg fellows. Didn't they help "prepare" Jan for his victory in 97?

Franke says that the team members went to Freiburg for blood doping and doesn't mention any other 'treatments', so this could be a possible explanation.

    Is that a Landrover Auslander?
