ANother knee pain question

My pain is in the tendon from bottom of kneecap to top of shin
I had it a couple of years ago after honking up one of my local hills at max HR, it went away with prolonged time off the bike. Now it has returned following a routine and iincifdent free dry ski slope session
I am trying to look after it by avoiding strenuous pedalliing, which fits in with gentle level 1/2 training at this time of year.
However after Christmas I really need to give it some welly to build up some power for forthcomming summer to improve TT times and also not be embarassed on La Ventoux Sportiv (I also have 2 or 3 ski trips planned)
I seem to have the following options
a) rest completely and stay of bike until soreness subsides
b) carry on as normal (level 1/2) and hope it doesn't get worse
c) give it some welly and hope it subsides
Any advice please?

See a physio. Most likely a knee tracking problem irritated by the skiing. gentle cycling probably won't make it worse but it won't get better either. You'll get some stretches adn perhaps (as my son did) some footbeds to correct his 'rolled in' feet which placed even more inncorrect load on his knees.
Giving anything that is already inflamed some welly will most likely make it worse.0 -
Rest.
However, if you are going to continue, use NSAID (cheap supermarket own brand ibuprofen will do) and ice after every ride.
I'm in the same boat as you. Mine flared up after a 13 mile run 3 weeks ago. Previously I'd have been impatient and carried on regardless but this time I'm going to do it right so I haven't cycled or run at all and I'm on the NSAID and 10 mins of ice every couple of hours.
Hope to back and active again in a week or 2 - before I kill someone.0 -
Get your position checked by a professional.
Physio will fix the symptons but not the root cause.
