Nice to see that ignorant small-mindedness exists on this forum as well as in other parts of the planet, tells me that we're all pretty much the same the world over.0 -

Agree, everyone else is just as small minded as we are except in the UK we beat ourselves up about our small mindedness while everyone else beats us up about it as well.0 -

But if our sense of humour is grossly offensive to some, then might it not be better to keep it to ourselves?I was only joking when I said

Thats the beauty of our country compared to Sudan, Iran and the like, we can express ourselves freely.
I have not seen anything posted that I believe to be grossly offensive.
When we visit certain countries we have to abide by the laws and customs, which I agree with, but in our own country we still have to do the same or it is taken as an offence?
Well my view is simple, if they do not like it leave, thats the same choice I have when I go places or stay in places.
What about the clowns who were calling for our troops to be slaughtered whislt so called protesting in London? I guess that was not offensive?0 -

Do you have to be a muslim, or from another country to find things which one considers deliberately inflammatory or insulting offensive? I understand your point about being free to say things which others may find offensive, but just because it is legal doesn't mean we are compelled to do it, or that others have to find it acceptable.oldwelshman wrote:What about the clowns who were calling for our troops to be slaughtered whislt so called protesting in London? Of course it was offensive. But by your criteria, we are allowed to offend others, so why should those protesters not be allowed to express those feelings? But prosecutions were (quite rightly) carried out, because in this country (again quite rightly) those opinions were considered too offensive.
I'm afraid this old-ish welshman (me) will have to agree to disagree with another oldwelshman...I was only joking when I said

Ah yes, but there is difference in protesting innocently and inciting hatred and terrorism.
I'm afraid this old-ish welshman (me) will have to agree to disagree with another oldwelshman...

I just think it was entirely stupid fot those idiots to protest that the teacher should have been executed for allowing a child to pick a name for a teddy bear.
It is exaclty the same practice as carried out in schools here, each day some child gets the chance to take a teddy home and name it.0 -
Stupid? Perhaps, though you may not know that the school was run by a Christian organization and the muslim students there, integrated though they were, were in a minority.
The teddy bear incident may have been just the excuse that hardliners in the muslim Sudanese government were looking for to have the school shut down, which is what has happened.0 -

This kind of thing just goes to show what a bloody awful state this country has got into. How on earth can someone not know who Oscar Wilde is.
I ask you....Did you not pay any attention at school or read a book of any description at any time?
For those who are a little bit younger and may not know....Oscar Wilde had a top 10 hit with "Kid's In America" in the 80's and now presents a gardening show on tv.

In most cases, there is a sense one has of what is and isn't appropriate to 'defame.'
It's really very refreshing to see that does not exist on this board.
'Looks as though the teacher is actually a closet biker.
Ooppss, I really shouldn't have said that. I am so sorry.0 -

That's him? Dood, I've seen that show. He's the same guy that played Nosferatu in that old movie, right. You know, the creepy guy with those long fingers.?.?.?0 -

Old Kim looked quite sexy but had a dodgey eye !!
I was educated in Wales and they could not afford many books so I never got to read many there The odd Shakespear book.
I find reading boring so do not read any books actually I prefer to do more active things such as squash, cycling, diy and forums
Another reason is I studied engineering so for about 16 years read loads and loads of engineering books, they just happend to be technical and not Oscar Wilde, sorry0
