Best overtake of a non-cycle

I've passed a couple of learner drivers dawdling along the roads where I live, which is always quite amusing, especially on a Brompton.

This morning however I think I topped that off. A Buell Motorbike was hogging the left hand filter as we approached a small roundabout (7 Dials for those that know London) so I followed him up and then lined up to his right as we approached the roundabout. I now had the inside line on the roundabout, so I left him for dead thanks to my superior initial acceleration and manouverability. :D

He did come haring passed me as we went down upper St Martin's lane though.

Cars hate being over taken... and will virtually accelerate into the back of another car to avoid you skinning them

My best overtake was past some old geezer in a sports car, descending towards Shere at the end of the Tour of the Surrey Hills. To his credit he saw me accelerating towards him and he made it easy for me to pass him. I was in a big rush, I had only minutes left to make it inside the gold standard 5:30, I made it at 5:25. That recumbent really does descend like a homesick rock. I nearly lost it on the hairpin before I passed him, btw, I was going waaay too fast and the tarmac had corrugations.

anyone who knows the coventry area, overtook a moped just after the war memorial park en route to kennelworth, he got me back at the lights where it crosses the A45

got him on the long flat bit and held him behind me all the way including up the hills,
    perhaps he wasnt trying.

I'm on that stretch every day - nice :D

The first time I was out on my tri bars I was in the cycle lane on the Binley Road. I passed a moped, followed by a BMW X3 on the flat, they must have been doing just under the speed limit, very satisfying. The guy on the moped looked even more pissed off than the guy in the BMW.

I love cruising past cars in Richmond Park, they get so frustrated by the 20mph limit which I have no intention of obeying on the bike!

    Any of the following:
    Ferrari F430
Aston Martin DB9 / Vantage (want to do a Vanquish to complete the set)
Every current Porsche, including blowing a Cayenne Turbo away at the lights
    Lots of Bentleys
The entire population of Toyota Prius' in the 0207 dialling code
    10 Bendy buses
    3,478 taxis
    3 bikes
    1 Fire Engine
    Thrust 2
(the last one may be a fib)

The joys of riding in central London...

Heh, I love the roadworks we have all over the place in Edinburgh right now! A lad in some sort of Chavmobile roared past me, and got stuck in the huge queue for some temporary lights. I gave him the thumbs up as I went past, but for some reason he wasn't looking. 8)
  • My favourite was delivering a couple of harleys to the west country one night in the van.

Cruising at about 80mph along the east bound lane of the a303 and i suddenly see very bright lights approaching from behind at very high speed.

I get in the left lane and suddenly an Audi rs4 passes me like i'm standing still.

In a split second as i think to my self"flash git/how fast" a Lamborghini gallardo shot up behind him and flashed him out of the way.

Audi pulled over and the lambo shot off like a scolded cat,sat there giggling for the next ten minutes over how daft mr Audi now felt

I know there's a lot of car hate on this forum, but Lamborghini Gallardo mmmmmm. Now I don't even own a car, but if I won the lottery...
  • The sound and the flames from the pipes as he downshifted made my trip worthwhile 8)

I'm in the lucky position that i get to occasionally play in supercars and the lamborghini is one of my favourites.

The best bit is hearing the revs increase as you go past - especially if you surprise them on the inside. Happens all the time - especially with Vauxhall Cavalier Man.

Down the moped thing downhill. He was srewing the guts out of his bike and was obviously on a standard bike, limited to 30mph(?) and I hit 33mph. Felt good, bet he didn't tell his mates about it though.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • I had a good overtake a couple of weeks ago; I freewheeled up behind two cars going downhill on Cairncry Road in Aberdeen early in the morning, the front car was doing around 28mph and kept braking to stay at that speed and the second car was sat behind him dabbing his brakes every so often. So I thought 'sod this', pulled out and overtook both of them, I was doing 38mph by the time I was past them.

Other than that, seeing either a motorist or motor biker double take as you pass them in excess of 30 mph on a particular flat stretch of road near Hazel Grove, S. Manchester (Five Ways to Rising Sun for the locals)... always has em........

Not quite a great overtaking move on my part, but haring down a hill towards a gatso at about 30, car following sees me and is obviously desperate to get passed me on my mere pushbike.

    FLASH FLASH

They get caught by the Gatso, laughed I almost peed myself

Going past a bunch of trucks, cars and coaches whilst doing 50mph (no exageration) down a mountain in New Zealand riding a tandem towing a Bob trailer was kinda interesting.

I once over took a moped during a 10 mile TT, but the best was when I was out with 3 mates training it was just after Christmas and were heading back home doing bit and bit. We were travelling at 30mph+ when we caught 2 young lads out on their new mopeds they looked like they had had them for Christmas. As we passed them I took a quick glance at them the look on their faces was great they obviously couldn’t believe that 4 bikes could overtake them.
  • I managed an overtake on a Ferrari 360 once, under a 30 limit coming out of Oxford. In all honesty I was only trying to keep up for the noise! Then I saw that the overtake was on, so it had to be done.

I've also tricked a car into overtaking me round a bend, straight through a gatso and got the two flahes. That made me happy, because it was a Merc 4x4 which had been right on my tail trying to bully me out the way for about 2 miles.

But my best overtake is my daily rolling overtake of about 500 stationary vehicles on the A40. Makes me grin every time!

Last week I was following a a tractor pulling a cart-load of horse manure !! It really stank and I couldn't stand it so I shot passed him doing 25 mph .... the look on the farmers face was priceless

It was even funnier when he tried to catch me up ... and couldn't ... haha

Mind you it's worth pointing out ... that it was an exceptionally SLOW tractor

Nothing better than doing a line of traffic and gaining 100 yards or more on the last car to pass you.

I overtook a skip lorry recently. Thankfully nothing was coming the otherway as the lorry just pulled out in front of me. I didn't fancy crashing into him, or potentially doing an emergency stop and falling off so I flew past him. Would have liked an airhorn!
